Re: Chattanooga, TN, Best city in the nation?

#102034

I believe Chattanooga is at least one of the best cities in the nation to live in, if you are an outdoor enthusiast. I have lived here for around 8 years now and it is a hub for all kind of outdoor activities: rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, road biking, swimming, running, triathlons, rowing, hiking, etc. For mountain bikers the cities has within 15 minutes of downtown 5 or 6 trails. One of these include Raccoon Mountain, a 19 mile loop which has some of the best single track around. Sorba and Outdoor Chattanooga are in the process of adding more trails to Raccoon Mountain and around the city to get Chattanooga to over 100 miles of single track in the next few years, and they are already at 60-70 miles. Oct 7 will be the opening of a new trail system on Lookout Mountain at Lula Lake. If these trails aren’t enough then within an hour of Chattanooga you can get to Chillhowee, Tanasi, Brush Creek, Bear Creek, Pinhoti 1,2,3, Pinhoti Snake Creek, Fort Mountain, and numerous other trails and mountain roads to keep you busy all day long. As for other things to do in Chattanooga, Every Friday there is a concert series down town, there are Lookouts games, there are Beer festivals, wine festivals, 4 or 5 micro brews, a great art district/museum, 12 miles of river front sidewalks, the aquarium, the river gorge tours, Rock City, the Incline Railway, Ruby Falls, a Railroad Museum, and even a Tow Truck Museum. If anyone is looking for a nice weekend trip, this is a great inexpensive place to spend it.
