Mountain biking in 2007: A review

As 2007 comes to a close I thought I’d reflect on some of our more popular blog posts and in a separate post I’ll give my predictions of the top mountain biking themes of 2008. Believe it or not the singletracks mountain bike blog just started in January of this year with this post and …

Singletracks is all better now

Singletracks experienced some minor technical problems earlier this week (that is, if you consider your server catching fire and melting “minor”) but we’re back in business with a shiny new motherboard and power supply. Luckily none of our data was affected but if you notice anything strange or broken, definitely let us know about it.

New trail maps

We’ve been quietly updating the mountain bike trail maps on singletracks over the past several weeks and we’re finally done with all 345 maps. The new map format is more consistent and gives you  topographic data plus waypoints, roads, lakes, streams, parks, and more. For those of you who know your maps this is a …

Week of contests: Day 3

Wow, I guess people don’t like free stuff! First two contests haven’t had a winner despite the easy tasks. Let’s see who wins today’s prize package: a pair of skewers (red and green); “The Wedge,” high vis light emitting tape; and a spoke wrench. To make things interesting we’ll also roll yesterday’s prize package in …

Case of the Mondays? Waste time here.

If you’ve got a case of the Mondays today, how about taking a few minutes to fill out our MTB trail survey? We’re giving out prizes to random winners plus everyone who takes the survey gets free singletracks stickers. Sweet, huh? Here’s the link: Singletracks trail survey

Singletracks is moving

Some behind-the-scenes changes are coming to singletracks over the summer and we want to keep y’all in the loop. First off, we’re moving to a dedicated internet server to keep up with increasing demand. We’ll keep downtime to a minimum and for the most part you shouldn’t notice any changes but there may be some …

Mystery revealed: Singletrack vs. Singletracks

When I first started writing this blog on a regular basis back in January, I alluded to the fact that I was calling this the “Singletrack” blog rather than the “Singletracks” blog. Subtle difference, yes, but perhaps perplexing for some. Well perplex yourself no more… When we first started out 9 years ago we really …

Singletrack for beginners

It’s often tough to find just the right trail for first time mountain bikers. Obstacles like roots and stream crossings that might seem commonplace to experienced riders make beginners cringe and wish they had never ventured off road. I’ve personally given some bad recommendations based on what I assumed would be an easy first trail …

Sorry for the lack of news

If you’re worried we’ve abandoned the blog thing, have no fear! After an international excursion, the singletracks blog will be back to daily updates starting next week. As it turns out French and German kezboards are tough to tzpe on and some of the letters are mixed up 🙂 More to come soon…

Singletracks email newsletter launched

We finally sent our first email newsletter to singletracks members yesterday afternoon and the response has been great so far. To get the newsletter you need to have 1. signed up for a singletracks account, 2. opted-in for our email list and 3. have signed in to the singletracks website at least once. When all …

Mountain bike blog

New for 2007: The singletrack* mountain bike blog. The idea is for this to be a daily or semi-daily roundup of interesting news concerning mountain biking, mountain bike trails, GPS biking, singletracks.com, and tangential topics. Do you know of any good mountain bike blogs? Unforuntately we don’t (unless Marla Streb is keeping hers up over …
