Interesting to hear that #5 was NOT to invest in carbon rims. Just when I was about to pull the trigger on some. lol. Saying they found that they are “too harsh” on the ride and not really worth the extra $$ basically. Can anyone support this idea or refute it as to why it IS worth the investment? I have 27.5″ plus wheels now and 2.8″ tires on my Santa Cruz HT. Rides well and climbs great on short rides (approx 5 – 12 mile range). But last Saturday I rode 17 miles and found myself wishing I was back on my 29er for some of the trail. How will carbon rims and the stiffness help me ride better in either scenario?

Well, I am currently on my first ever set of carbon wheels. And I was so against them for so long. I would argue their worthlessness to my buddies all day. But now? I hop I never have to go back! The reduction in rotational mass is sooooo noticeable and makes such a difference in my climbing and endurance. As far as stiff? I couldn’t say I noticed a difference. But I certainly am a believer in carbon wheels now!

I am trying out some 29er Enve carbon wheels this weekend to see how I like them. So I suppose I will be a believer or NOT in just a couple of days. lol
