With only about four inches of annual snowfall, the trails around Ellijay, GA stay clear pretty much year round. Heck, even if all four inches of snow fell at once, that barely even warrants getting out the fat bike. The average low for January and February hovers right around freezing, while daytime temperatures stick near 50 degrees. Ok, so the weather works but what about the terrain? One word: Mountains.
Ellijay is home to some of the best singletrack in Georgia including Bear Creek, Pinhoti sections 1 through 4, and the Aska Trail System. And the thing is, every one of these rides includes about 1,000 feet of climbing and descending through remote forests where riders pretty much have the trail to themselves this time of year.
Rain can be an issue during the winter months, and fortunately the trails around Ellijay drain exceptionally well. If you do go to Ellijay, be sure to consider staying in one of the cabins at Mulberry Gap and stopping into Cartecay Bikes in town for supplies.
