While Mammoth Mountain has already been open for several weeks, the resort is finally set to open all the way to the summit beginning this Saturday, June 14 (2014). For a taste of what’s to come, check out this photo gallery:
The Mammoth Mountain Bike Park is set to open off the top this Saturday. The Gondola will spin first thing Saturday morning, providing access to a number of new trails, including the iconic Kamikaze, Off the Top, Velocity, Chain Smoke, Twilight Zone and Beach Cruiser. In total there are now more than 20 trails open, with more coming each week. Current trail updates are available on the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park website: http://www.mammothmountain.com/summer/bike-adventure/bike-park
Mammoth’s iconic Kamkikaze run will be open this weekend for the first time this year. It’s like riding a terrifyingly fast piece of mountain biking history and also serves as the venue for one of the main events at the Kamikaze Bike Games (Sept. 18-21): http://www.kamikazebikegames.com/
If you’re looking for a gentler path down the mountain to get started, Big Ring trail, pictured here, is a great way to see the mountain and get your wheels under you.
Lower Twilight Zone, a favorite of many Mammoth riders is primed and ready to go. The jump lines are looking primo.
Another of the classic Mammoth Trails, Bullet Downhill will be open this weekend. It first opened in 2001 to challenge riders for the Grundig World Cup. It features big hits, bigger drops and the rock garden, one of the most technical sections of in-bounds bike park terrain anywhere.
Chain Smoke, another of Mammoth’s Pro-Level trails, is dropping for the first time this weekend
Manzanita offers some of the best view of the Sherwin’s on the mountain. The combination of the words “fast” and “flowy” may well have started here.
The Discovery Zone, part of Mammoth Mountain’s arc of progression, will open next weekend on June 20.
