I lost 3 pounds and would like to go up to 175. Currently at 167. Can I borrow 8 pounds from someone? I’m riding about 100 miles a week getting ready for endurance race. Any suggestions on gaining weight WITHOUT more cholestrol My triglycerides are high…at least that is what they tell me.

After reading my last I see all types of typo’s. Just horrible. I forgot to add…I don’t know who said it in an earlier entry but your upper body and torso can not be stressed enough! Push-ups, pull-ups, abdomen work. Light weights will do. You will be surprised how your enduranc e increases when your whole body is fit. Think of it as if one of your bike components is out of whack…the bike won’t ride as smoothly. Same goes for your body. Enough from me. Good luck.

As far as endurance goes I agree with everyone who says hours in the saddle. I have an 11 mile loop with lots of climbs I ride several times a week. If I only have time to do one lap…I do it. If I have time to do 2 or 3 I do it.

As far as streanghting your legs my best advice…and this works for me is take long climbs up mountains. As for me I live and work in Western NC and at least two times a week I will ride up a mountain just for streagnth training and it works great so if you get the chance to come to an area with long climbs…do it. Best of luck.

41 years old…5’8" and 170 pounds. I am trying NOT to loose weight just maintain my current which I am happy with. For those trying to loose weight don’t forget to excercise your upper body. All I do are pull ups, push ups and use light dumbells. Also don’t forget your abdomen muscles. I have been doing quite a bit and loosing that weight and gaining that streangth really helps the riding.

This is the difference between Singletracks and other forums. Everyone is so helpful here and people are not mocked for asking perfectly legit questions 😈 . If any of you have been on other blogs some of the threads sound like conversations between school yard bullies. Keep up the good work.

Now my question. I ride a 2010 Specialized Rockhopper SL Expert which is a hardtail. I am more of an endurance rider than anything. I love hellish uphill climbs but am not very good on downhills as I am legally deaf…hence a balance disorder…which was why I started riding as my ENT physician suggested I pick up a hobby that could help me with my balance. I’d say mountain biking is a great choice. Enough of my health history.

Any adivice on a good all around XC tire. I have ideas from my own reseach and what I have been told at bike stores but I say you guys are the experts as you ride frequently enough to know. I ride the trails all over Western NC. I don’t want anything too heavy as I would like to keep rolling resistence down. Thanks for the help in advance.
