This makes sense. These kinds of events have become way more popular and they provide a pretty cheap to attend. It is nice to see some solid numbers. Especially for those trying to set up these kinds of events. I know there is a ton of single tracks where i grew up but they couldn’t ever do any events like this because of all the laws and regulations that went with it. but maybe if the cities see that they could bring in some serious money maybe they will start putting these kinds of events on more often.

thats a pretty interesting concept. I think it would be pretty awesome to ride but i pretty much agree. it would cause alot of problems on singletrack trails. especially when it comes to hikers and horseback riders. i can only imagine what would happen if you came around a corner on that thing going to fast and ran into a horse. someone would get very hurt. it would be alot of fun though! haha

No didn’t get hurt but i did end up stranded about a mile and a half from my car when it broke!! haha. so far i am really enjoying it. getting out and doing something i grew up doing and not really appreciating. Now i really can’t wait to move back to california, i am originally from northern california near auburn and placerville, because there are some awesome trails right close to where i grew up.[/quote:t7amu69h]
Nice! That’s where I live. When you get back here, shoot me a pm and we could hook for a ride![/quote:t7amu69h]

Oh ya! where do you ride. I grew up near Cool between auburn and placerville. There are a ton of places up there to ride. it will be a while before i ever get back to california but when i do it will be awesome to get onto some of the trails there! they are really beautiful.

ya i wear a helmet on every ride. my first day back into it i underestimated a turn and got intimate with a tree! I will always wear a helmet.

in reply to: Tips for trails with roots #117571

Ya the trail i ride the most is full of roots and rocks! i have found that standing also helps in the corners. if you can move the bike under you instead of having to lean with it if you are sitting. If i am moving kind of fast i am standing. after a while it just becomes so comfortable.

in reply to: Is mountain biking growing? #118287

Im pretty new so i think i can give the view of someone just coming into it. I think the biggest thing that turns people from is not the trails or the cost of going to them its the cost of the bikes. I mean i just picked up about the lowest end i could get and it was a $600 bike. most people just can’t afford that. Then you throw in the fact that it is exercise and hard work and people just shut down to the idea unless then have a good reason for staying in shape. lets face it most people are lazy!

I one reason kids dont really get into it is because of where they are growing up. if you grow up in the city most of these kids don’t even know what a mountain trail is. Especially if their parents aren’t willing to take them. I grew up in the hills and always had a mountain bike growing up. nothing crazy but something i could have fun on with friends. and that is what we did for fun. go ride our bikes, until we got dirt bikes anyways.

So to be honest unless the price for bikes comes down considerably i really dont see much of a rise unless the economy starts to grow again and people end up with some good chunks of spending money.

what thats crazy!! why would anyone do that? i would be so mad if i was just moving along and got taken out along the way.

Ya to be honest i dont even really feel the weight. This bike is geared so much better then my old one that i don’t even notice. It just pushes right up the hills. And going down hill is so smooth with the bigger tires. I must say it is a lot of fun! Thanks for welcoming me.
