Glad to hear someone has actually seen these trails. I’ve been following this project since there was a little sign on the ranger booth a few years back saying trails may be coming in the future. Looking forward to riding them soon!
"Staindsoul4life" wroteI know its a bit of a downer to bring back up and its been over a year since the last post, but any new word on the Blue Springs MB Trail?
YES! From the Chuck Lennon and Flagler Area Biking FB pages:
The Blue Springs Trails opening has been pushed back from January 1st to the 5th so everyone can recover from New Years celebrations. This event is nothing fancy, just a soft opening to let people know about and start enjoying the trails. The trails total around 4 miles with fire roads that go for many miles further. I would classify the trails as a beginner skill level. The new trail head in located about a 1/4 mile straight passed the main park entrance down the sand road on the right. There will be people handing out maps beginning at 8:00 am and a guided tour starting a 9:00 am. Come on out and show your support for another trail we can now mountain bike on that our club (Flagler Area Biking) has helped to open in Volusia County. No one suggested the bike shop rides? I’m suggesting the bike shop rides.
I believe Super Cool Bike Shop rides on Mondays, Mr. Goodbike on Wednesdays, and Bikes and More on Fridays (I’d call first or check out their Facebook pages). Each starts and ends at the shops. Great people on those rides who were beginner friendly.
Now that I’m living near Orlando, I really miss how easy it was to get out riding with a group (not to mention how many trails there were right outside my door).
I’m about to. I recently became a Central Florida Resident and have been looking to get back on the bike. I’m about 30 minutes from the Mt. Dora Trails and not too far from the ones you listed.
AND no helmet? She’s lucky she got out of this with only a dirty face!
I’ve also had the problems with the tingles. Thanks everyone for their suggestions.
Maybe just a Florida thing, but I hate riding into a cloud of gnats/flies. Things are damn near invisible and they stick to sweaty faces/arms (or worse, in your mouth).
Dang. Is this the greatest thing to happen to unicycling or not that big of a deal? It seems like a big deal.
"GatorB" wroteI bailed on the project last month do to the direction the trail was heading. The original trail design was overruled by another larger group of trail builders so the original guy in charge quit and I soon followed. I just got dumbed down and all the elevation changes where bypassed and the direction it was going in was just not my cup of tea. It looks like a golf cart path IMO. Its a shame to because the second half of the property has a elevation change of 80 feet over a 200 yard run. Could have been a nice little down hill run but we could not get enough people to volunteer to keep it aggressive single track. We just got out numbered. 😢
We have been putting in a lot of time out at Doris Leeper aka Spruce Creek and remodeling the trail. We are making the trail flow fast. Fixing all the sand and berming up the corners. Give us a few months and then check it out. 😎
What a shame. I guess I’ll swing by Spruce Creek for my own riding, but I’m sure the girlfriend will like Blue Springs.
Oh ok I know the place. Thanks for the thread link too (I’ve ridden with Galaxy, nice guy). I’ve ridden most of Gainesville but the Rock and Split Rock will have to wait until I return some time in the future. Thanks!
Dual slalom in Gainesville? I have not heard of this…
So I may be in this area for a while starting very soon…what’s the status of this project? That park is already very nice, adding trails would be incredible.

There are a few guys on the forum who started with Wal-Mart bikes and have upgraded the hell out of them. Replaced every component. It may be easier to find a used bike. Craigslist works, but you need patience (to wait for a deal to pop up) and then speed (to jump on a deal that pops up).
Craigslist! Gotta love craigslist for used bikes. Just be patient and do some research on anything posted (this site and many others have reviews and bikepedia.com has a bare-bones spec list for nearly every bike ever). Then take it to a shop for a tune up and you’re good to go!
Well if they’re grippier than my current plastic pedals and they’re free, then yeah it’s a start!
"tarvisg" wroteI don’t think Powerlite is still around anymore. But when I rode when I was younger I had a Dyno Nitro. I remember looking at Powerlites in the magazine and they were definitely nice bikes.
I also had a Nitro. I loved that bike and I rode it into the ground. All the other kids in the neighborhood had chrome Dyno VFRs (which, to this day, we never figured out what that stood for) but there I was rockin out my green Nitro.

So through this forum, I met up with SaiyanFury and GALAXY and they showed me some trails. Shout out to them and a big thanks for helping out a newbie.
Of course he can do that, but I got a "protection is inherently uncool" vibe.
I have more to say on this.
Looking cool should be the least of your worries. Being able to ride each week or each day is the goal. When you feel safe and secure, you’ll have the most fun because you won’t have to worry about getting wrecked all the time.
When I used to skateboard (longboarding, downhill, very fast) I always felt WAY better with gloves, helmet and pads than without any of those. Food for thought.
