Yea, that was me !!! My right leg hurt for 2 or 3 days after that !! I saw you on your GF, but it was some what of a blurrrr !! Looked like you all were having a blast, I know we did. Lord willing, I will be back out there this Sunday, see ya on the trail.
I was out there as well. I think we crossed paths on Little Gnarly. I was crankin up, you guys were flying down!!!! Other than a few soft spots, the trails were in awesome shape. I was surprised to see that many people too. We ran in to 4 different groups of riders, plus saw two guys loading up when we got there at 12:00. An awesome day indeed.
I was also on the fence about a 29er until I rode a full day on a freind of mines. The only thing I have noticed different about mine from my old 26er is acceleration. The 29er’s are all about momentum. I have had mine a few months now and love it. I noticed also it is a much smoother ride and while your buddies are cranking , you’ll be coasting !!!! 😎 Enjoy 😬
That is awesome !!! Looks like he has done that a time or two !! My son is 12 and I have had him out a couple of times and he has enjoyed it. I am working on a deal on a nice 13" Trek at the LBS for him. He has done a pretty good job with the clunker he has now. With this new bike, he should enjoy it even more. Thanks for sharing.
I have the exact bike your speaking of. I have an 09 Stumpjumper 29 comp, and I have not hit the bottom bracket on anything, yet that is !! The way I see it, with any 29er, you have 3" higher ground clearance on a same model bike with 26’s. I have hit my pedals a few times though, but that was cornering when I should have had them parallel, so that was my mistake. I am with the others. I guess it all depends on how gnarly your trails are 😬 I love me stumpy and have no regrets. Good luck !!
PS: I only paid $1700 for mine at the LBS a few months back.
Thanks, it was a great choice. I can’t believe how it handles the gnarly stuff. You just point and shoot !! I have been able to climb a couple hills I was pushing on before.
As you all can see from the pic, I bought the 29er’. Picked it up last week and all I can say is OMG !!!! I have had it out 3 times in the last week and I still have a smile on my face. This bike is all about momentum. I am still working on the set up, but I am getting closer. 😎
Hey gaber, nice to see a fellow Mountaineer on the site !! I am from the Parkersburg area and we have a few nice trails close. Mountwood Park and North Bend State Park. Look at the reviews, they are very well maintained and something for everyone. Look me up and I will show you around. A couple of us ride every Wednesday and Sunday. The trails are only about an 1 1/2 hour trip from Charleston and you can pretty much ride all day. 😎
I bought a Mojave 4.0 and have put several hundred miles on it at my local singletrack. So far, so good. It is definitly a good starter bike for the money. I looked at several bikes in your price range and the Mojave was one of the lightest in that $ range. My LBS offers free tune ups (if bought new from him 😆 ), so I have taken it in regularly for PM, and it rides and looks as good as it did when I bought it. Good luck, hope this helps.
Went to the local bike shop and bought the jumbo lizard skin. Fits much nicer than the last one I had. Thanks for all your input 😀
First reply, but have been poking around on here for the last several months. My riding buddy and I rode Mountwood Park in West Virginia Monday for a nice 13.5 mile ride. The weather was awesome, but the trails were slick. Was able to grind out a reopened trail for the first time all the way to the top thanks to some advice I read on a post !!! Look forward to hitting it again this weekend.
