If your from New England check out Nemba. They have group rides great place the get advice and learn skills. Best upgrade to my precept dl has been the front tire. Ardents a good tire but washes out in corners.

I would go with wheel size. I have all three but have found my 27.5 to be my goto. Rolls right along with the 29ers but still has a slight edge when trails get tighter.

Agree looks like rivots go to bike island grab a set of take off cranks cheap and set it up the way you want or just wear out and replace as suggested. Last time I checked they had some FSA cranks 35.00 free ship new bb 25.00 chain 20.00 done!

So gave up and pulled fork apart. Everything is there and in one piece. Service manual says 3ml oil in air side it was dry no oil at all anyone think this could be the cause of the play? On damper side I noticed no residence on up stroke but could feel damping on down stroke is this normal? Air spring side would provide up stroke damping i would assume. Planning to replace seals and see what happens.

2year mine is just over figures right.

Have another bike with the same fork doesn’t have problem and this occurred recent during storage over winter I believe didn’t notice last year. I like these shocks for xc I feel for price they can not be beat. Only real complaint is rebound speed but only notice occasionally. I have both a 26 and a 29 version.

Thanks for the ideas I’m planning to go to the rockingham recreation trail tomorrow. It lists open year round seems for all. Really impressed with how well the fats float. Couldn’t make 20 ft on 2.3s on trail behind house just rode on forever with the fat tire.

in reply to: Hello from Leesburg VA. I need help… #123249

Outside outfitters has manitou radium air shocks for 1$0.00 They ship a little slow but this shock is great for price. Rides real well and virtually no pedal bob. As others mentioned measure to ensure correct shock and bushings Manufacturer will probably give you the information. Enjoy the sport.

in reply to: Kona WO fat bike derailleur question? #123235

Just observation on first ride on hard packed snow so I am concerned for future rides. I can see problems coming in fresh snow currently it is a 2×9. On first ride I did use both rings so hate to jump to a 1×10 unless I can not find a solution.

in reply to: Rear shock #122525

Thanks for your input but took a chance on manitou radium expert 2013 model for 154.00 new and reviews look good.

Don’t go over the bars you’ll ruin a great brand new pair of riding gloves in a hurry. You’ll need a new bike soon, not really need, just want, but keep in mind if you want it long enough then it becomes a need.

in reply to: what bike to buy for 700-800 #119281

I got a gravity 29er from bikes direct. Came with deore shifters, derailers added rockshok TK solo air better shock for same price as suntour loyalty upgrade and didn’t have to change to 15mm front hub. All for 650.00! Couldn’t even come close at local actually felt bad really like the shop but about 200.00 to 300.00 difference for same components.

in reply to: Is it worth it? opinions/advice #122058

I think 350 is a decent price what year is the bike? Make sure rims are tru does crank spin smooth. Take off chain and spin to check bottom bracket. What are the derailers shimano what type?

in reply to: Tough Choice #121963

If you have not bought a bike yet here’s my 2 cents. The 29" is awesome got mine in put together and rode last night even with the crap forks and narrow bars I love it. It just seems to flow better. The wheels want to just keep rolling down hill, uphill over obstacles. Planning to take out this weekend on some more technical trails and see how it does. i know my next bike is a full suspension 29". If the 29" is this good 29" and suspension has got to be pure bliss.

in reply to: Tough Choice #121955

I just bought new 29er on way I got hard tail based on friends opionions. They claim their hard tails are as good as there 26 full suspension on cross country rides. I currently ride a 26 hard tail so can’t get any worse. I have no experience on a 29 full suspension. I do own a airborne it is a nice bike and they were great to buy from.

in reply to: Body Geometry grips slipping #121895

Slide them off grab your wife or daughters favorite hairspray spray it inside grip slide back on overnight to dry and good to go. Or I’m sure they sell spray glue but hairspray has worked for me and its always in the house.

in reply to: Advice for a new guy #121829

If you love the bike and enjoy doing the work then i think its worth it. Certain pride that makes the ride that much better. If you order all the componets and then break the frame in half just order frame. Moneys all spread out, cash, wife never knows your riding all that money around if she did might not understand. If the bike geometry just doesnt feel right go buy a new one keep that one for backup.

in reply to: lockout suspension ? #121583

I never lock mine out. But I only have front may be different if I rode a suspension bike.

in reply to: Best way to protect frame from chain slap #121450

Lizard skins all the way. Second season on both of mine.

in reply to: Cable routing question #121400

Rode with a guy with a specialized today he had factory holes at the base of those cradles with a small thin wiretie holding down the line. Worse case you could drill small holes and use that method at least you would not have wireties around the whole frame. If you want I could get photo next time I see him didn’t think of it today. At least you are riding.
