i also ride a 2011 ex8 and agree with most of the others (with the exception of the giant frame ‘upgrade’ 😆 ) – i’ve changed nothing but the tires and the pedals. the stock tires suck if you do anything that isn’t paved.
but i would definitely not recommend dropping 5 feet on it! i’ve done some rock steps that push 2+ feet, but i don’t take them too fast. maybe it’s because i don’t have the nerves, but i’d like to think i am looking out for my bike 😃

Thanks for the info and the trails page skibum – I appreciate it!

Deadman’s ridge is an awesome trail – I hit that one on my last Moab trip in Nov. Fun technical, but also just great flow in general. Worth the ride if you’re in Moab.

But…how tough exactly IS Flat Pass? I’m doing the Xterra Moab triathlon in June and I think the MTB leg of the race is the Flat Pass trail. Being a newbie at swimming and this my first triathlon – I’m starting to worry that I’m not going to have much left in the tank for gnarly singletrack after dog-paddling a mile in the lake.
Anybody have any words of wisdom for Flat Pass that may help??

    Thanks!!
