If you want to save a few hundred bucks you could skip the disc brakes (or put the money into an upgraded fork instead). Even in Colorado, I think disc brakes are overrated for the recreational rider. I’ve riden most trails on the front range and can say my pads have worked out just fine (even screaming down Apex). Have changed them once in 3 years.

On the other hand, full suspension is REALLY nice for the trails out here.. worth every penny but you get what you pay for. Don’t go too cheap.

Good luck! I’ll look for you! My favs are Lair o the Bear, White Ranch, Deer Creek.

Take a map for sure. There are a few confusing parts. Also, watch out for this one side trail.. straight down about 150 ft. drop, then the trail slowly disappears.. 😢 You’ll know it if you hit it..

As a moderate rider, in GA, I really didn’t see the need for disc brakes, but since moving out to Golden, yeah.. I could see how they would be helpful. Long descents = very tired forearms. Cost has come down a bunch too and you can probably find a used pair if you check craigslist. I’ll probably switch.

Still, I think for a new bike, I’d rather invest the money in the frame and components 1st, disc brakes 2nd.

I understand Green Mountain (West of Denver) is pretty good all year long.
