Score!! I had something similar happen last year. I was working in my garage and a neighbor from down the street walked up and asked if I was interested buying another bike. I wasn’t, but curious enough to take a look. It was a Novara FS, about 1300 retail and he rode it twice on the sidewalk around our neighborhood. I called a friend and work out a deal between them for 400 bucks.
Next day, he knocks on my door and says "Hey, just remembered that I have some bike tools, that I won’t be needing now. You want to take a look?" Of course I did, but was expecting to see an all-in-one trail tool and some tire levers. Instead he slides out a drawer of his toolbox and it is chalked full of brand new Park tools, NEVER USED, some in the packages. And next to the toolbox was a set in a hard travel case (great to have in the truck at the trailhead). AND he reaches around the back of the toolbox and pulls out a park workstand, not the cheap one either. I nearly passed out. I tried not to look overly excited…Yawn…until he said "What do ya think? 200 bucks". I produced $200 like a magician pulling some fake flower out of his sleeve. The workstand is the Deluxe home mech PCS-4-2 and goes for about $340. The tools are just to many to list, but it took me 3 trips to get them to my garage.
I think that him and his wife were splitting and he was trying get get cash for stuff she was probably going to get. Anyway, my gain.
Great laugh. In the shower shot, too funny. Thanks for the post.
This is my 2008 Cannondale Rush SL 5z at FATS just outside of Augusta GA. This is an amazing bike and don’t have a thing bad to say about it.Now at Wal-mart in your Pharmacy isle.
Welcome, both to the site and to the MTBing world. Enjoy the trails at your own pace and maybe that old Schwinn will show ya a thing or two. This is the place to ask and get questions answered.

Go clipless and don’t look back. don’t think about it another second, go buy them now. Just get a shoe with a good stiff sole that fits well and don’t be afraid of the falls. Most of your falls starting out will be at extremely low speed or stopped and you’ll just fall over, then laugh. Have fun.
Lets start off with what area you live in and what kind of bike you have. These will be the first two keys for good advice. We don’t want to send you bombing down a killer trail on a Huffy.
I rode with my eTrex Legend for several years using the bar mount. This time last year it finally pooped out and wouldn’t stay on for more than a couple of seconds. However, it had a long and prosperous life while hiking, biking, geocaching, Iraq, and it was always in my backpack. Now I have the eTrex Vista HCx and it’s Legend…..wait for it……dary. After a year it’s been on the bike, on a couple of north GA hikes, and I have it with me in Iraq right now. I like to have the GPS when I’m biking in a area I’m not familiar with or somewhere new that I can snag a geocache or two.
Thanks, got mine in the mail the other day. I will be plastering them on my junk when I get back from Iraq. I can’t wait to ride again, but Augusta is going to be blazing in Aug. Later
I have three that I call mine.
My primary is the Cannondale Rush SL 5z. She’s great on the singletrack in the Augusta, GA area (FATS, Modoc, Kegcreek, the whole list).
My backup and loaner is a HM Snakehead full suspension. It’s heavy and lowend, but it got the job done.
The last is a Schwinn BMX that I cruise the nieghborhood on and hit the park every now and then.
I like to eat an apple on the way to the trail, some gels or candy bars on the trail, and for shorts stops along the trail I like to mix Honey Nut Cherrios, Roasted Peanuts and Raisins. Yummy
I love to listen to the Pod while I run and have been seriously thinking of adding it to my ride. However, I think that being able to hear the tires on the trail and listening to you bike is critical to a technical ride. That being said I will probably only use the Pod while on relaxing slower rides. While running I like to listen to somethings that rocks hard, so I have a crazy mix. AC/DC, Queen, SlipKnot, Static X, Ramstein, Rod Zombie, Fly Leaf, Tenacious D and several others. I also really enjoy listening to audio books while I exercise. Really takes your mind somewhere else.
