Those are both great trails! My home trail is Bacon ridge. Definitely A fun ride.

in reply to: Oval chainring and platform pedals #578451

I have been riding Absolute Black 32T on my Farley for several years. I am a clipless rider and see no disadvantage to the oval. Actually ordering one for  the new Fuel EX 9.8. They can’t be beat for climbing. I now climb several gears higher with the oval than the round.

in reply to: Trying Fat Bike #578402

Well, I have been on fattys for years now. I totally love my Farley. I have 2 sets of wheels for it, one with my studded 27.5 x 4.5 snow tires and one with 27.5 x 3.8 go fast tires. The Farley will move. 3.8 is as small as I go on my Farley and she is a great singletrack machine. To me it is the most fun I have had on 2 wheels.

    Farley7 29.3 w/27.5 jacks on. Cannondale Flash al1 lefty-23.8.

in reply to: I guess I am alright with not going (that) fast #234557

rmap01: I don’t know why I put ex!  Was thinking bucksaw not beargrease. Still would recommend trying the Farley HT also. If I had to sell all but 1 bike I would keep the Farley.

in reply to: I guess I am alright with not going (that) fast #234517

I am 60 and am enjoying the ride. I am not grown up for sure! What I have seen is now I ride a bit smarter than I used to. I ride a Farley 7 and love it. The most fun I have had on 2 wheels. I have seen a small bit of slowing as I get older but am still faster than the guy on the couch! Still pass some 20’s and 30’s but that comes from riding smarter. I have learned to pick my lines better and to not worry to much about passing and being passed. Usually you will catch up with the guy who passed you.

rmap01: Beargrease is a sweetie for sure. If you get a chance try the Farley EX series. They are a sweet bike also. I am actually thinking about an EX8 as my back is starting to show its age! What tires and wheels on the Salsa? I went 27.5 Jackalope wheels with 3.8 hodags for on the dry on my 7 and it has totally changed the bike. Kept the 26×4.7 for snow.

When my robs died I went Bontrager XR3 and never looked back. They roll well and have great traction.

in reply to: Help needed – bent deraullier or hanger, #232636

Check the hanger. I have gotten them new and bent out of the bag. don’t know if I would change the derailleur yet. check the hanger then the adjustments in the rear. I run gx on my Farley and it had to come apart before it didn’t work. Sounds more like the hanger and or the pulley cage. good luck.

in reply to: What was your first mountain bike? #231679

Cannondale AL1 lefty. Tried to kill me but made me a good rider pretty quick! Was either get good or die trying.

in reply to: Night riding lights #231553

I like my Bontrager Ion 800 or 700. I put 1 on the bars and 1 on my helmet.

$3000-$5000 for me. I currently run a Farley 7 and love it. Am toying with getting a Farley EX8 as I am not getting younger. I also work at a shop p/t so get really good pricing.  Well worth the 6 hrs a week. I like the folks there and the prices through the training program are AWESOME!

in reply to: What keeps you from riding in the winter? #230565

Nothing stops me, I have a Farley! Love it!

in reply to: What's the best deal ($$) on a fat bike? #209404

in reply to: Do you haggle over prices with your LBS? #206703

Yes, I usually try to get a model year or 2 old bike and will haggle on them. All my bikes were last years model. Got Great deals on them. Now I work at the shop p/t and get smoking deals. I now have a current year farley7.:)

in reply to: Fat biking year round??? #204724

Update: Put a new Bluto and a set of 27.5 Jackalopes with 3.8 Hodags on the 7 and the bike hauls butt! I think the Bluto is going to make the 7 and my back play well together. Keeping the 26×4.7  Barbi’s with 80mm mulfut wheelset for snow and crappy weather. I did not like the Hodags on the snow. Both sets are set up and ready to roll Quick change of wheels and a different characteristic bike! Love it. That is one of the great things about a fatty. It can be what you want it to be.

in reply to: Fat biking year round??? #203471

I have a Trek 2017 Farley 7. It weighs in about 28 lbs. I ride it all the time. It is the most fun I have had on 2 wheels in my life! It is aggressive and fast. Traction out the wazoo! If I had to sell all my bikes but 1 it would be the one I keep. They are amazing. I have a C-dale flash AL1 lefty that barley sees the light of day. The only thing I may do is go 27.5 w/hodags for the summer. They also have the Farley ex fs. Try it you’ll like it!

in reply to: Nates in snow – should I stud them? #199409

Really only needed for ice. I love riding in the snow. Especially while it is still falling! Enjoy the FAT!

in reply to: 29 or 27.5 inch tires? #198527

How much does 29er impair on the jumps and burms?

I don’t think it impairs at all with 29er wheels. I just pick my line and have at it.  You need to go ride one on the trail.

in reply to: Need your help! #196621

What Alvin said! I love my treks. They are great bikes. I get the same stuff from my daughter with her specsh. All in what you like and I like my trek.
