Be careful of B*ll Sh*t. A radar gun will only register magnetic metal i.e. iron/steel. Carbon fiber, titanium, aluminum will not register on radar and steel has to be close to be picked up. Lazer will pick up an object (you and bike). Radar has to be reflected by steel-metal. The radar ticket is BS. A lazer ticket mat not be. Go to court plead not guilty and ask for a jury trial. Ask the officer/ranger if the lazer has been recalibrated for people as opposed to automobiles and ask to see copies of the calibration. That should get you off. They aren’t smart enough to know if you are wrong. The worst you’ll get is a fine and not 30 days in the electric chair. 😄 Later,

As someone who uses radar at work, a bike WILL get picked up by radar. Distance is a contributing factor. I’m also sure "they are smart enough to know you’re wrong"

Bought my 2012 Specialized Stumpjumper Comp 29 in the fall. Love this hardtail. Handles like a dream and just feels right when riding

in reply to: Clipless or Flats? #107886

I just rented a bike while vacationing in Florida. I rode Alafia and had to use platform pedals. I have eggbeaters on my bike at home so I’m used to clipless. Wow what a difference. My feet were constantly flying off the pedals. I hate riding flats. Although it did save me once when I had to bail, which I would have never got unclipped in time.

No changes to how points are calculated, though we did make a change that [i:2v4fep2t]might[/i:2v4fep2t] have affected bike shop and/or race reviews. Could that have been it?

It could have, I did review I believe 3 bike shops but I lost over 13 total points.

The best upgrade would buy a new bike. 😆 😆 😆 I know you got a great deal from your best friend to begin with.

in reply to: Gramcounter status…? #95383

I have a problem where my points have been decreased. Last year I had the trailblazer status with a little over 100 points. Now I’m back to gramcounter at 94 points. Anybody else mysteriously lose points?

I’m from Southwest Michigan and love my Specialized Renegades. I also had good luck with Kenda’s Small Block 8’s

You’re waiting till you get home to ‘pound’ the beers tho right?

I hate seeing people drink a few in the parking lot then get in their car and drive home. Not cool.[/quote:31efngvc]

I never drink beer in the parking lot. I wait until I drive home 😆

For the record, I grew up around horses, and both my wife and daughter ride. But as a trail use group, they are whiny and annoying for the most part.

Looks like youre sleeping in the stable for awhile with that last comment

    in reply to: JUMPS #92938

I jumped and became a stiff board in the air once, when I landed it was more like a heavy log. I still have the bump in my thigh to prove it. Over a year later 😆

There’s great skiing in Michigan though. At least, there is in Upper Michigan[/quote:3odwdm5l]

In fact I lived in the U.P. for 4 long winters when I was in college. There is a ski resort called Searchmont, about 45 min. north of Sault Ste Marie Canada and it was phenomenal.

in reply to: NiteRider 750 #102099
    "trek7k" wrote

I haven’t used the 750 but some of Niterider’s new lights this year are just brighter versions of the old lamps meaning the beam pattern hasn’t changed. Honestly though, a 350 lumen lamp mounted on your helmet should work pretty well for night riding. I got away with a 150 lumen helmet lamp for dozens of rides last year, though a brighter lamp would have allowed me to ride faster.

Have you tried mounting the 350 on your helmet and pairing it with a lower power handlebar-mounted light?

Not yet, I have it bar mounted. If I do buy the 750 I’ll helmet mount the 350.

    in reply to: Forks #101521

Instead of blowing money on a great fork on an entry level bike, save and buy a great bike that comes with better components and a better fork. Otherwise you’re just going to be throwing money at upgrades over the years
