in reply to: Chain lube recomendations? #69872

Pro-link Is what we put on at the shop on almost every mountain bike…I am convinced that dry lubes should be used pretty much on road bikes… Use the pro-link liberally and run your chain through a rag for about 30 pedal strokes and you will be good to go!

in reply to: Chain suck #69634

put a new chain on it and check the rings that it sucks on . Whenever we get this at the shop it usually is fixed with a new granny ring or a new chain. mileage is not always the determining factor for wear and abuse. look for bent teeth on the rings also…. somtimes one misshift can bend a chainring just enough to affect the whole works.

    umm not be a smart A$$ but isn’t that a road atlas? 😆 😏

in reply to: Help please #69294

usually when you go throught the trouble of changing the front chainrings and the chain you should change the cassette also. All of your parts tend to get a MESH with each other . Take it to the bike shop and have them check out your cassette, there is a tool and it only takes a minuit. I would bet a new cassete would fix the problem.

Desert offroad racing (motocross) is probably one of my biggest passions. I don’t race like I used to. Not becasue of getting older and slower, but becasue I’ve been enjoying a nice long “slower paced” ride. I’ve been able to take in more of the scenery this way. I plan on racing one more time before I move to South Carolina. Although I look forward to some different riding in the South, I know there is nothing like riding in the deserts of Southern California. One would have to experience it to know what I’m talking about…
    ..

I am right there with ya ! I race Enduros and Motorcross , I started riding MTB to get in shape for raceing !

the only thing that I have seen wrong with the Cakes are the swingarm bearing frame interface….Slop developes in-between the frame and the bearing. I have seen two Cakes with this issue..

That being said I just purchased a Fuel EX9 .built my own 717/wtb wheel and it a sweet ride!!

in reply to: Component Suggestions #68999

I had the R7 and Did not like it. I have a Reba team on my EX9 now and it works very well.

ON the breaks , I would steer clear of the maguras just cause of the maintainence issues. When we see a magura system that comes in to the shop we play ,ROCK -PAPER- SCISSORS , loser bleeds or services the Maguras… I really like the Hayes carbons, But Avid makes some killer stuff too.

in reply to: Anyone Have One Of These? #68986

in reply to: Anyone Have One Of These? #68983

I built one at the shop and rode it around for a little while , Seems to be real nice bike. the only thing you have to watch for is the suspetion bolts, the have been know to work thier way loose. The Brain is a pretty awsome shock!!! Go for it !

Specialized Stumpjumper and Stumpjumper FSR are pretty nice bikes. The new Fuel ex line is pretty good. I built an FSR pro at work the other day and it turned out to be nice bike.

nature trail/ PMI are the best for night riding. The south shore is great for daytime , not so good at night.

in reply to: Riding all year ’round in Colorado #68432

We night ride down here in pueblo. from november to march the night can be a bit nippy but it sure is a lot of fun. I invested in a good light a good set of tights , some GORE windstopper jackets and some arm warmers. Its a lot of fun . I bet we didi not go a week last winter without a ride due to snow

in reply to: riding around Colorado Springs in NOV???? #68422

    I ‘m not saying there’s anything wrong with the 7000, it’s a great bike for 1974 😆 😮 😎 . its just not my fuel 98.

in reply to: riding around Colorado Springs in NOV???? #68420

I was not able to get a track on a desent rental, My uncle only has old rigid fork bikes. I may have a bike i can borrow, My spare is a Trek7000 , its not great but I have been able to ride it the last month with some success.
