I’ve got a Dakar Bam 2, and I love it. Stem and pedals are an easy switch. You just have to decide what length and rise of stem feels best to the style of riding you prefer. As far as pedals go, if you are primarily riding trails, I would recommend SPD’s. I use them on my trail bike 99% of the time, unless I’m going to be on really technical terrain, then I might switch out to flats.

I was there at the end of August, and I must say that the trails and staff are amazing. Awesome downhill, freeride and singletrack. The atmosphere in town is very biker oriented as well. I had an emergency repair and a mechanic at FB Freeride stopped what he was doing and repaired my bike. I highly recommend this as a destination and I am looking forward to going again next summer.

It’s a simple fix. Just use a small flathead screwdriver to pry apart the pads and reseat the pistons. There is a specific tool made for this, but the screwdriver should work just fine.

I wish I knew of any, but I don’t. Let me do some searching for you and see what I come up with.

I’m a transplanted Texan living in Seattle and Germany. A great place to look up trails and conditions is GHORBA. It’s the MTB association in Houston and it has trails listed all over Texas and most of them have current conditions listed. Another good place to check out is MountainBikeTX.com. They have a wealth of knowledge on Texas trails as well. Tell your friend who’s living in Austin that he is surrounded by some of the best trails in Texas.

Welcome to Singletracks! With advancements in bike technology these days, the selection of bikes is greater then ever. Some manufactures are offering big discounts due to the downturn with economy. If you can, test ride some bikes on the trails you will be riding the most. Remember, for the money, a hardtail will be the lightest and spec’d with better components then a full suspension at the same price. Personally, I prefer full suspension for the technical singletrack I ride back home in WA and out here in Germany. In the end, make sure you get the bike that fits you well, even if it means saving for a little bit longer. Again, welcome to the club and the wonderful world of mountain biking.

I’m Navy medical. I have not made the ride up to the castle as of yet. Most of the trails around here are double track with some short sections of singletrack. Just picked up my car today and my new bike should be here anyday. Took a bad spill on my current bike, broke an arm and have now been out of the cast for 3 weeks. Really itching to ride. I have multiple bike trips in the works for this spring and summer. RowdyREBEL is another rider around here that has been in the area long enough to find some good rides. Check out his trail pics.
