I have 2.6 Nobby Nic in front and Rocket Ron in the back on Banshee Spitfire. One of the best combo’s for Midwest trail riding. Feels like normal tires but way more grip. Prefer them instead of the 2.4 Ardent/2.2 Ikon I have on my 29er hardtail. Just way more grip. Not sure how they would do in more rocky conditions since they do seem light/thin to keep weight down. 2.6 seems like the sweet spot if it fits your terrain and riding style.
Once in a while I use Maxima SC1 Silicon spray. Be careful not to get it on brakes. Repels dust and keeps the fork working silky smooth…

I haven’t ridden in Peoria but I really like Kickapoo and Palos. Kickapoo is like a mini Brown County and very well designed and constructed. It has flow and advanced sections like Heaven and Hell. Can’t miss Palos since its the largest area in Chicago. New Stonehouse trail is awesome and for techy sections head down to XX and XX extension. Only thing with Palos is that it can get crowded, so I avoid it on the weekends.

If you can find it, its my favorite beer. Dragon’s Milk
For a non-milk, maybe try Old Rasputin from North Coast Brewing Co. out of California
