Okay – I get the spoiled kid thing, and I get the giving kids too much too soon thing. I strongly believe that spoiled irresponsible kids turn into spoiled self-centered adults. BUT I know that my boy would appear spoiled to someone who might not know him, and he’s anything but!

My guy and my boy put together a really nice bike (built it from the frame up) and it was a killer experience. We ride about 4 times a week. My boy also snowboards a lot. (once a week thoughout the season) However the kids has a ton of responsibility and is homeschooled so he doesn’t get a lot of stuff.

I’m amazed at all the crap his friends have (talk about spoiled), the best in sports equipt, the newest in video and computer equipt. But they think he’s got life made because of his bike, his school sched, his snowboarding…

I guess I’m of the mind “don’t judge a book…” but also leary of the parenting train of thought “throw enough money at them and they’ll love you”

    Just my $0.02.

For inexpensive and bike friendly, I vote Foretrex 101 – i looked at the forerunner but like the foretrex better. Also the 201 looks good but the main difference is that the 101 uses AAA and the 201 uses rechargeable batteries. So if you’re out on tour, the 201 is only good as long as the batteries last.

I haven’t gone on any tours but my guy goes each year and I plan to go next season. (He also has the Foretrex 101 – same reasoning)

Hey all – I’m enjoying the forums here! I’m not a good cook (as I’m sure my guy Jason could tell you! 😮 ), so I have no recipes to contribute! LOL

I am mom to three teens. Stephanie, Samantha, and Scott. Steph is 18 and super tied up with her guy, Samantha is into her friends and being a girly girl, so that leaves the boy and I to do all the fun stuff.

I’m into snowboarding, like it’s an obsession!!! I read about it when I’m not doing it and I’m planning trips that I hope to pull off before I’m 50. (I’m 37 so 40 is a bit close!) My guy Jason built me a full-suspensions mountain bike and got me into biking. In turn I pulled him into snowboarding! We go once a week during the season and ride a big ride at least once a week during MB season. (at least that it the plan each week but we’re both self-employed!)

Other stuff:… Hiking is fun! We’re going to do some backpacking this summer. So far our trips have had to be postponed (self-employed complications!).

My work is Real Estate so I’m either doing nothing or running my butt off!!!

My favorite trail so far is Rampart Resevoir – though I ride the trails off Mt Herman most because that is where my guy lives. (Palmer Lake).

My boy rides with me most times and since we homeschool we can pretty much go whenever the weather and time allow us to!

    Nice to meet ya’ll!!!

Chrisb – You never know. We usually stick to our 5 peaks (well 3 of the five) but I hope to travel a bit. I actually want to go to the Steeper and Deeper Av Camp in Valdez, AK but CA is a bit closer. LOL

homeschool, hardtail and snow. sounds like me! Maybe we should all hook up next ski/board season?

That would be great! We snowboard on Mondays (or did this last year) to avoid the crowds. Usually we are at Breckenridge because I get cell service there, but we really like A-basin when we can get away from the cell phone slavery of my work!

Hey – My son just started riding with me too. He’s 13 and just started getting into being healthy (fit, eating right, etc). He went to an outdoor mountain lab with our homeschool group and had a great time!!! So it’s not hard to get him to head out with me.

My guy built me a full suspension mtn bike last year and a few months ago, while I was in DC with my oldest, he took my son out on my bike for a few rides. Now they are building a bike for him. Once we get the fork in he’ll start doing some serious rides with us. Right now he’s using a dirt hopper that we use for trail riding (hard tail).

I’m new enough to riding that I’m not hard to keep up with. 😏 We snowboard together all winter. I love the together time with the men in my life and am loving this new passion!!!!
