My blog post about this is up now…feel free to comment here or there and let me know what you think.

Thanks for all the replies…I held our first real club meeting Thursday and our first official trail day is ion the morning! It snowed a little earlier today. Not expecting a large crowd but hoping a few show up. We are clearing large stuff for a major work day to come in a few weeks. We always ride after work!
I believe Cannondale has the “trail” series. It has been a year or so since I dealt with Cannondale.
For me having two boys under the age of 5 I am lucky to have a wonderful wife. I just got a 2016 Trek Top Fuel. I backed off a little and got the aluminum version. Find a way to get her equal cash for her thing.
I guess the point I am getting at is that I feel it’s more enjoyable to ride on a trail that you have worked on. I feel that if every mountain biker gave one day of trail work in place of one ride our trails would be that much better.
This contest was just what I needed to get off my butt and get involved with the site again, really fell off after singletracks was taken off tapatalk. Its worth it for the stickers! I love the new design by the way!
Welcome to a great sport, once you start there is no stop! I would suggest going to a bike shop and looking at what they have and see if they a used or consigned rack to save you some money. In my experience with used bikes a lot of times if you add the initial cost, any immediate repairs mixed with even just a few upgrades you have equal money as an entry level, say Trek Marlin with a warranty. Also a great resource would be bicycle marketplaces on Facebook or Pinkbike. We have a great one in my area, I’m within driving distance of DC so there are always people selling awesome bikes on ours. Food for thought I guess.
Thanks Guys! Like I said in my post, I cannot wait to get more miles on it but by far the best bike I have ridden!
Yeah I race in the Clydes. I’m gonna keep my HT 29er for XC races.

Thanks for the reply, I work at the bike shop too, I know all about the bikes I was hoping to hear from a few folks that have these particular bikes and the terrain they ride. Thanks though. I have too much extra weight to complain about bike weight. Cheaper for me to lose it haha. I think going to end up going with the Stumpy.

Sweet man, yeah I have been in contact with Frank from IMBA about getting something going. I really want to get to some of the other classes they offer. Such as the land manager and political classes they offer. I really want to get something going up here.

There was a great turnout but it rained all day! Didn’t put any tools in the ground for fear of messing more up then doing good. Also I didn’t get to ride the trails there either. Learned a lot of great material and hoping to get a chapter going in my area that is lacking a good group.

I have been on Strava for a long time, it is a wonderful training tool and as you said a great motivation and way to stay up with friends from all over. I’m glad to see a Singletracks club! Joined…!

I want something like this; do you have problems knowing where the bikes are? Running into things when backing up, for example?
I might buy something like this with my REI dividend.

No I have no problem at all. I also haul trailers a good bit so I am used to having stuff behind me. Plus when it’s not in use it folds up nice and tight to the vehicle.

Well I am from WV and when I had a pickup you’d be surprised what I had on the back. Haha you have good points but when I have done a good ride the last thing I want to do is climb into the bed of my trick or up on the roof to secure my bike. I did it for years but once I got that tray rack I am not sure why I went that long without it. Also Thule has a model that is a tray rack for the hanging truck style and it works rather well.

I don’t know about you mtbgreg but I’m not gonna just throw my hard earned expensive MTB into the bed of a pickup. Tray racks are the way, I have my bike on and secure in 10 seconds.

I have a riding buddy that uses one of the Sea Sucker products to haul in bike on his Audi. Seems to work fine but it looks a little goofy going down the road, a 29er riding up the back glass is comical…check their site but the sea sucker is a 2 piece set, your sporting a Mini convertible, may not be able to get the bike on the back. Hitch it will be man, unless you want to spring for a real vehicle like an Xterra or something, haha kidding. Good Luck!
I know what you are meaning, one can never have too many bicycles. I love mountain biking and living in West Virginia I have the playground all around me but I love riding a cyclocross bike as well…My MTB rig is currently down right now waiting for a warranty for the frame. I also have other issues with the bike. I need to get up and running for the upcoming season though. I hope to get some posts up about my MTB and the issues I am having with it…
