  • Hey! Just got the similar bike after riding hardtail for years. Glad you are liking it… I have one suggestion – and not sure it’s a good one:

When I got my HIFI, I also switched over to clipless pedals (I have since changed back to flats), and rode it like that for a couple of months. I found there was a lot more control of the back-end of the bike when hopping over crap, and was much easier to get both tires off the ground when needed.

However, on the same note – found the clipless also made me a little timid on taking some very technical single track – and I ended up hurting myself due to the wary nature of harder trails. Well, that and (in the endless song of those in the clipless world), couldn’t get out of my clips and whammo’d myself several times quite nicely.

So, long and short of it is, if you want more control after your 15 years of absence, clipless is a fast and easy way to gain more control over the bike and getting the back end up.

Don’t know if that helps, but welcome back to MTB!

    Hi there! My first post/reply!

Depends on which side of the city you are on. If out West, would suggest Hilton Falls (lots of great double track, and some challenging single track, and if silly and reckless -the toughest course in Southern Ontario, Bent Rim!), or if you want luxury and are up North, try out Hardwood (good enough for the Pan Am games, but easy enough for family fun)!

These are both pay parks (but not expensive), but north of Hilton Falls are many regional forests that have similar tracks… And are free. Dozens of km! But you gotta look them up!

Don’t know out East of city, but both are closer than where you went last time,

Hope you’re having a great time in your biking adventures!
