Can you take it on a little more than parking lot ride? Maybe some grassy hills nearby or down some steps? that way you can gauge a little better if the size will suite you.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me but you know what you’ll need in terms of fit.

in reply to: 24 Hours of Colorado Springs Mountain Bike Race #90968

I was just thinking about how cool it would be to do a 24 hr race there!

I’ll actually be doing a marathon that weekend though.

There should be a Singletracks team!

The trails there have been great this week from all the rain packing the sandy soil down. Some areas are still bad. no amount of moisture will help that!
really surprised by the amount of growth too. I was getting TORN UP from how narrow some of the trails have become!

yeah, when I saw the sign I needed to take a pic. LOL

    in reply to: Hawaii! #90576

LOL, there NOTHING that 2.5 hours away on Oahu. from Haleiwa to Aiea should take about 45 min to an hour. Half way there is Mililani (my home town) and a shope called Bike Werx (http://www.bikewerx.net ) not sure if they rent but another good resource for trail info.

    in reply to: Hawaii! #90571

If you’ll be in Haleiwa, go to Barnfields. they’ll hook you up with a rental and give you info on where to go. I would HIGHLY recommend Kaunala trail in Pupukea. amazing singletrack trough jungle and fun dh down a fire road back to the car.

pretty much anything works. I use mallets with adidas shoes and just got serfas shoes for more of a bike/hike shoe. both work great.

I’ve owed quite a few osprey pack in the past and currently use one for climbing. These guys have been around a while and have really been shaking up the backpack scene the last few years. No surprise they’ve come out with such good product for riders.

I’ve mainly been using Camelbak in the past but the Opsrey packs have really caught my eye.

**oh! another thing about Osprey is their AMAZING warranty service. they will repair/ replace your pack for its lifetime! My dog went after some food in the lid of my pack and jacked up the zipper. Osprey repaired the zipper at no charge. SWEET!

in reply to: I "accidentally" bought a 29er frame.. now what? #90351
    "dgaddis" wrote

Sell it. A 15" frame wont fit you.

And there’s no ‘cheap’ way to build it up either…you’ll spend a few hundred bucks even if you’re VERY thrifty.

according to the specs, it has a 28.98 standover height and 22.8 top tube length. Coming from the bmx background, it might work out…

Parts CAN come inexpensive (not cheap, know the difference!) but it’ll take a LOT of searching and patience. getting the wheels and fork will be your biggest cost.

in reply to: Shoe Peice #90131

You can a cleat plate at most LBS, just ask. I had to get a replacement (stripped out!) last year.
pull out the insole and there should be a flap to pull up to get the plate out.

I’ve only ridden the northern end of the trail so far and I preferred it CW. it was pretty awesome coasting through the ponderosa near the golf course.
I understand the southern half has much more climbing (or DH if CCW) so until I ride the whole thing, I dunno!
you came up with the best advise, Buddah, do it both ways!
