I guess I am looking into this too much…the dub system would be nice, but your right, Mark, I wouldn’t be changing the cranks/bb very often, so it is probably best not to worry about.

Just an update to put this thread to rest:

When I first tried to put the spindle through the bearing I was holding each in my hands which was not very stable.  So I tried again after first threading the external bearings onto the bike and then carefully tapping the crank arm and spindle into the bearing using a mallet.  After over-coming the initial resistance, it slide right through both bearings and out the other side without a problem except for the fact that the spindle is too short for use with external bearings, which I knew this may be a possibility, but I wanted to be absolutely sure I could not use my current carbon crankset on the new bike in the interest of saving money.

So now I either wait for the SRAM dub system to be available or go with a current model SRAM or Raceface alloy crankset.

    decisions, decisions….

Yes, as did I, but when I tried to slide the BB cup onto the spindle it stopped right at the bearing.  I know it is a tight tolerance, but it should slide right on, not bind at the bearing.

I had a similar issue with the bike I had been looking at; Evil Following MB.  No LBS sells them where I live.  After reading reviews from bike sites & people who own it and loved it, I bit the bullet and bought the frame.  I am in the process of transferring components over from my old bike to save some money.  So the bike is still an unknown at the moment, but I highly doubt I won’t be happy with it once I ride it.

Triton, you should check out Seth’s Bike Hacks.  He owns a DB Release 5C and it has taken a beating and is holding up very well. The Singletrack Sampler received one recently as a demo bike.   I hope this helps a bit !

The excitement is starting to build…

I just got my Following MB (orange) delivered!!!

Over the next few months I will be transferring components over from my previous bike and ordering some new parts to complete this build.

Can’t wait to hit the trails on this machine!!

Thanks guys for all your input.  Since I ride mostly my local trails and there are no huge downhill sections, just short ups and downs, I went with the Following MB (frame only). I am transferring much of my previous bikes components over to save some cash.  I am really looking forward to hitting the trails with this bike !

Thanks for your fantastic information, Doc !!  For where I live the Wreckening is too much bike, but the info of the Calling and Following I will definitely take into consideration, thanks again!  Of what length forks were on these bikes?

I have been looking into Evil’s bikes for awhile now and as you mentioned, I like the suspension platform, the geometry, and the components that Evil offers.  Since there is no place in my area where I can demo the bikes, the decision of chosen one of them becomes that much more important. This is why I wanted to get feedback from people who own the Calling or Following MB (or V1) that live in my area.
