  • in reply to: How often do you get injured? #185925

Fortunately (and knock on wood), I have not been plagued by injuries as a function of mountain biking.  But, when they did occur, surprisingly, it was not a result of a crash related to pushing the boundaries of my capability or dabbling outside my skill-set.  Rather, it was occurring when my focus shifted from a ride and as fatigue set in – primarily, at the end of a race or long ride. And, the crash was always slow, awkward and painful.  It rarely kept me off the bike but it had me wincing in pain for a few days.

As I ride more and extend the length of rides, I am beginning to notice symptoms of repetitive stress.  It has me thinking more about fit and setup to prevent any lingering issues.

Thanks Chris – we’ll check out the ATCA and entertain the idea of the “Double Shuttle.” We have a mix of riders with different downhill capabilities so we’ll have to balance our desire for gravity with keeping everyone safe. Generally speaking, everyone has a deeps set of lungs and ATCA may be a good option.

We’ll be driving from Seattle – looking to drive midway to check out some other trails but haven’t figured out where that may be…

Thanks for the reference articles – without a doubt, the Alpine Trail is one the bucket list and will be a highlight of the weekend.  We’ll definitely take a look at shuttling Larison Rock as an option. Thanks for the input.

I’d echo the recommendation to drop by the local bike shop and see what may be available on consignment.  There’s a number of entry-level bikes that may better suit your needs and protect your wallet than the pawn shop’s K2 Zed.  A few other options to consider are the Giant Revel and Specialized Hardrock, along with the Trek Marlin.  Be patient, talk to your bike shop and search Pinkbike and Craigslist if buying new is not an option.

Digging the new design and thanks for the extra motivation to post / ride and generally enjoy the spirit of competition.  For the duration of the contest, there should be temporary bump in points for trail status update; I could use the extra encouragement to get off the couch and ride.
