For anyone interested, I’ve been running rocket rons on the front and rear of my Raleigh this year. Wrote up my experiences with them here https://everydaymtb.com/schwalbe-rocket-ron-2-8-review/.
Marin Hawk Hill?
Bought a 16″ framed BMX bike for my kid, he’s now stepped up to a specialized 20″ RipRock. If I had to do it again I’d take a look at this Early Rider Belter 16″ https://earlyrider.com/collections/bikes/products/belter-16-trail. I have their trailer runner xl for my younger son and it’s awesome https://earlyrider.com/collections/bikes/products/trail-runner-xl.
Also, dig up the track that has formed on a shortcut. That will encourage vegetation to grow. Then find a large bolder or log to roll into the entrance and exit.
I would love to find a better solution, but I currently use something like this https://www.rei.com/product/861971/rei-co-op-sahara-cargo-pants-mens-32-inseam with this pants legs tucked into my socks. Not ideal or fashionable but it does keep stinging nettle etc off my legs and they dry quickly when it’s wet out.
If your going in that price range, I would stay with a hard tail. Full suspension bikes in that price range are going to be skimping in so many area. I just picked up a Raleigh Tokul 3 http://www.raleighusa.com/tokul-4381. Pretty great kit for the money. You can see an informative but entertaining review of it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SvBviCq3fQ
I use a garmin vivoactive, works awesome, doubles as a watch.
I’m doing a conversion like this on my fat bike right now. If you want a little bit wider range check out this sunrace 11-40t 9 speed cassette. https://www.amazon.com/Sunrace-9-speed-cassette-11-40T-CSM990/dp/B01N95OJLQ/ref=pd_lpo_468_tr_img_3?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=YZMN5EDE1D1WKY37MQ72 I have mine on order right now. I’ll try to follow up once I get it on and let you know how it works.
