  • in reply to: Steep Downhill: Front or Back Brake? #223944

I use both so about 50/50. There are two breaks for a reason.

in reply to: Post ride fork maintenance? #223235

Simplicity is the key here. No need to do anything fancy. Just a simple clean rug or a papertowel will do the job.

in reply to: What's with the new boom box trend? #222718

I agree. When I ride trails I am looking for peace and quite. I want to hear nature not  hip hop or dance or some other crap music.

in reply to: What bike rack do you use? #219764

I have one of the newer  Thule hitch racks that fits a fat bike and a regular MTB.  I live in a condo so getting into my underground garage would be impossible with a roof rack.

in reply to: Best shoes for platform pedals #216945

Giro makes mtb shoes but they dont compare to Five tens. If you wish to save some money just get a regular snickers but it wont be the same.

in reply to: Clipless or Flats? #216440

I ride flats and can still go as fast as my buddies when ride with them that race XC and ride clipped in. If you have good pedals and good shoes it won’t be that big of a difference. The reason why our ride flats is because I have old injuries and riding flats keeps me safer and less chance of getting more injuries. If you are not racing there is no need to be clipped in unless it’s your thing.

in reply to: Baggies vs. lycra / spandex for mountain biking #216439

I wear baggies with shamis underneath. I get out of the seat on the downhills and I  would feel that everybody  looking at my butt even though they are probably not. Just doesn’t feel rite to be all covered in spandex .

Rocky Mountain Vertex is an amazing bike. It’s super fast and rides so well. They have couple of models so the cheapest one starts from around two thousand and the most expensive I believe about three and a half. It comes with Shimano XT and all high end parts. Awesome hardtail!

in reply to: How often do you wash your mountain bike? #215528

I clean my chain, cassette, derailer, suspension and ect after each ride and make sure I get all of the send and build ups out if there but not too worried about dirt on the frame or tires.

in reply to: Comfortable Knee Pads that fit. #215132

I ride downhill and XC. For downhill I would recommend going with Poc or IXS and for cross country I would recommend going with G Form. The pads are pretty stretchy so if you get large it can fit your  large legs.

in reply to: Clipless or flat pedals for enduro? #212988

I prefer flats because I feel more comfortable on the downhills and turns knowing that in case if something goes wrong and am not stuck to the bike. I don’t race professionally and just do it for fun so those extra couple of seconds that I might gain with clips don’t matter to me. I ride with guys that only ride cliples and they race with pros and i can keep up with them most of the time. Sometimes on the big uphills I fall a bit behind but on the straight away never an issue. I know for me riding cliples would increase a higher chance of getting injured so I stick to my flats.

in reply to: What's in your pack for weekday rides? #212359

I am suprised nobody mentioned a bear spray or a camping/hunting knife. I think one of those should be mandatory for the most rides.

in reply to: How much suspension is enough? #212297

I used to be into big suspension bikes but just got myself an XC hardtail Rocky Mountain Vertex with 100 mm travel and I haven’t had so much fun riding trails in a very long time. Light, efficient and fast. I think for the most part at least in Ontario Canada full suspension is an overkill. I think 140 would probably be good for most riders.

in reply to: New Helmet #211637

I used to have the  newest Fox trail helmet but switched to POC Trabec. Way better quality and much more comfortable.

in reply to: XC Race Bike #211586

I got myself a Rocky Mountain Vertex 970 RSL cross country hard tail race bike and it’s alot faster and nimble on regular trails. I haven’t had so much fun riding trails in years. Race bikes are not only for racing they are just as good for every day rides.

in reply to: Anyone ever go on a guided, multi-day MTB tour? #211570

I have been with Sacred Rides and had a good time. It only make sense if you go to another province, state or a country just because you don’t know the area and what exactly to expect. They will usually have two or more guides that will escort you thru the trails, help you if something brakes and ect. Also it’s nice to have a bad and three hot meals a day. It gets a little pricy but it’s much safer to go with a company like that then wondering by yourself into an unfamiliar places and get lost and ect.

    Thanks for clarification

I use trailforks. Am I missing out on something?

in reply to: Best vehicle for mountain biking? #210587

I want to see a picture of your motorcycle with a bike rack. I have never seen anything like that and I have seen a lot.

in reply to: Best vehicle for mountain biking? #210521

I have a mazda 3 hatchback and I find its a perfect vehicle for me. Most of the time I ride solo and can fit any of my four bikes in the back of the car by simply removing the front wheel. I even fit my XL fat bike without any issues. I also have a bike rack that fits into my hitch. My mazda is good on gas and over the past three years proved to be very reliable. For those people who ride mostly solo and like to drive far to ride new trails owning a big pick up track is an overkill in my opinion.
