Looks like my Anti Snow dance worked! 😃

You can think about Airborne also. Their X7 Hobgoblin has pretty good specs and at 1825 shipped is a good deal for the price.

in reply to: How much longer can US bike dealers raise prices? #123921

bicycle imports declined 13 percent in units The number of bikes imported was reduced by 13%
dropped by more than 8 percent in total FOB value last year. FOB is an acronym for "free on board", meaning that the buyer pays for transportation of the goods so the amount of money spent for bikes imported was also reduced.
the average unit value of a bicycle imported into the U.S. in 2013 still increased by almost 4 percent Bike prices went up by 4 % it is unclear whether that is at the consumer level or the manufacturer level. I would suspect theyare ordering more expensive bikes by the manufacturer and passing any extra costs to the consumer
But who knows I could be wrong

Airborne Hobgoblin is good for the price

This doesn’t look promising for Burke and KT

I have been watching this and the town recently voted not to allow the Casino be be built! 😃

in reply to: Tough Choice #121966

Thanks guys. I think I will go with the Hobgoblin but wanted some opinions. Now can’t wait until tax time so I can order it.

Thanks for the input everyone. I guess the real question is, is the wieght penalty and extra maintenance worth the gain in plushness and smoothing characteristics of FS?

in reply to: Attention NH Riders: FOMBA or Bear Brook? #121543

Must hit is Big Bear. Climb Little Bear, stay to the left and that is the beginning of Big Bear. It’s not log but it sure is fun. Catamount can be ridden in either direction and is fun

in reply to: Attention NH Riders: FOMBA or Bear Brook? #121541

Supposedly trail 15 in the park will get you all the way to FOMBA trails. About 20 miles one way. There is a post further down this page that explains it. (I couldn’t find it quickly but I have seen it.) It is a Snowmobile trail that is being talked about so if the trail is gated you may be out of luck.

in reply to: Any decent trails in Manchester, NH? #120175

Bear Brook is awesome right now. NEMBA recently added a couple of trails and they rock. There’s I believe 16 miles of trails within the boundaries of the park and then more outside. Try it and you’ll love it 😃

I am not aware of the other states but here in New England the ECG is all street riding. There may be some paved traffic free trails in Mass and RI but all of it in NH and Maine is in traffic and on the road. I ride parts of it quite often on my road bike. Would be better if it were all dirt.

in reply to: Rear derailleur hitting cassette #120780

I figured this out. The cable housing that connected to the rear derailleur was limiting the slip of cable. So when I shifted to the larger ring it moved enough to shift gears but it didn’t move enough for the derailleur to pivot up so that it didn’t hit the cassette. Hope this makes sense to somebody with A. 😃 D.D.

Has this derailleur been unistalled and reinstalled since this issue arose?

If the base plate of the derailleur (held into place by a "C" clip around the mouting screw) that retains the spring that is inside the mounting base is not sprung and locked into place by the little bent over tab on the side of this plate against the nipple on the side of the derailleurs base then that adjustment will not do anything and it will appear like the spring could be broken.

I know that’s a bit confusing, but it’s hard to explain without being able to point it out.

    Aha,
I haven’t reinstalled the derailleur but that would explain why the adjusting screw doesn’t seem to do anything. I will chack that out. Thanks JacksPerson

[quote="Doomed":fyve0sou]I am fully aware of how to adjust my rear derailleur but my derailleur hits my cassette when I am in granny (lowest) gear whether I am on my center chain ring or my smallest. I have the adjustment screw all the way in. Is there something I am missing? Do the springs that keep chain tension go bad? Are those springs replaceable?

That’s one possibility, but there’s also a screw that adjusts how close your derailleur sits to your cassette. I’d check that first.[/quote:fyve0sou]

That’s the one I have adjusted all the way in. I forgot this is a Shimano Deore 9 speed derailleur

If cleaning up the lube doesn’t work pay attention to your seat tube. I thought my bottom bracket was creaking and it turned out my seat post was dirty where it contacted my frame 😮

in reply to: So Very New to this #117484

That looks like it has about a 100 mm stem. A shorter stem will go a long way to making it seem smaller. A 50-60 mm stem is pretty cheap.

in reply to: Crankset/Bottom bracket issue #117289

    Kyle,
Check the chain line measurement spec for each crank. There are differeent sizes. I went from a 47 to a 50 mm and had to realign my FD so that it shifted correctly. Those 3 mm made a huge difference

Renowned drummer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brian Tichy, known for his tours of duty with BILLY IDOL, FOREIGNER, OZZY OSBOURNE and currently WHITESNAKE broke his collarbone this past weekend in a mountain biking accident.

While I’m sorry to hear about his broken collarbone, I always love finding out about big-name people who love to ride mountain bikes! Ride on dude!

OMG! That dude is the SH**! He plays and writes for some of my absolute favorite 80’s rock god groups on my mp3 player. I would much rather hear about a rocker getting injured mountain biking, than getting re-admitted to rehab.

    Mountain biking really ROCKS!![/quote:376pslyo]

Unfortunately this wasn’t the guy that wrote/recorded the 80’s hairband stuff. Ozzy was playing with Tommy Aldridge and Randy Castillo. Whitesnakes stuff was recorded with Simon Phillips and played live with Tommy Aldridge. Still cool to see people that represent the excessive 80’s being all healthy by riding a bike.

in reply to: How to chart trails? #114869

    Gdb49,
On the right hand side, while looking at the review of the trail there is a link that says "add to My trails". That will indicate that you have ridden that trail. Happy Holidays and hope you reach you 100 best goal.
