These guys are right….gets better with time BUT>>>

Don’t fool yourself….you don’t need a valve core remover, gorilla tape, stans injector or any of that stuff.  Take your valve core out with a pair of pliers, if your rim ain’t taped….then yes you need tape.  And just use orange seal.  It weeps through the sidewall less than stans sealant, seals better, and lasts longer.  It also comes with a tube connected to the top of the bottle….so no need for a stans injector.  You could also just pop the tire off in a strip about 5″ wide and pour the sealant in that way.  OR…get a cheap set of plastic syringes…remove valve core, put syringe in, pour sealant in….boyahh.

The Evil is a nice bike, no doubt about that….but from a fellow NC’er; I’d want something that climbs a little more sprightly.  I think that’s the Evil’s only downfall is a bit more lugging on the uphill.  I’m on an Intense Recluse now, and it climbs like a goat.  Super playful, super flickable, super fun.  It’s not as plowable as the Evil, but can still hold it’s on at the nearest DH.  Stumpjumpers are adored and easy to come by, good all around bike.  I would think it’s closer to the Recluse than the Evil.  I know nothing of the Scott and Cannondale.

That Trans-WNC bike packing route looks pretty cool.  As someone who frequents the classic singletrack in Pisgah, I will tell you that this particular route around Brevard is not very feasible for a non-suspension bike.  The route outlined there includes everything from Black Mountain trail to South Mills River.  These are super tough and technical trails even for the best guys on 150mm full suspension bikes.  The good thing is…with a little research you can likely navigate around all of the “black diamond” stuff in Pisgah and stay on gravel roads.
