Awesome!! thank you brianW!
Raccoon Mtn looks great, I might stop there.
but if anyone else has any other great trails, let me know.
or any in southern Florida!
Or really, if anyone has a suggestion on campgrounds in the Atlanta area where I could stay….that’d be awesome as well!
Like most of these fellas I ride Crank Bro. I’ve got the Smarty’s which just as previously stated are bottom of the barrel, cheapest Crank Bro pedals you can get but great pedals! For shoes I have some Specialized shoes which are great. Both pedals and shoes I have gotten on Ebay. There are several sellers on ebay that sell Smarty’s (as well as Candy’s and so on) that are great to buy from, and I’ve had no problem with them, or the pedals. Also check for some shoes on there, I got mine for pretty cheap, around 25 or 30 bucks, and they’ve held up great…you just gotta know how to find the right stuff.
Well actually, the front wheel (which is the same) is disc ready. It has the 6 bolt hub. I guess is there an adapter/hub/attachment that I might be missing or could buy that will thread on like a freewheel???
here the picture of both rear and front.

I was a little worried if I could even complete a singletrack ride without gears, but I did, first time on commuter tires at that! 😀 ha ha! Its been a blast though. I don’t see myself going back to a 26er or a geared bike any time soon. Its a lot of fun and being a 29er, it just keeps rolling once its going. Don’t have any regrets.
I’d just like to say that I’m pretty sure I have this same problem with my Cannondale. No, its not a FS, but from what I have gathered, it sounds like it might be the crank arms. I had a creeking (still do) in my crank arms. My LBS said that it is coming from where the crank arm is attached to the BB. It is just loose enough for the two pieces of metal to rub against one another to make the creeking noise.( very very very small amount of room in between the pieces)
At first i thought it was the pedals, but to test it, i just leaned over my bike and pressed down on both crank arms at the same time real hard, and I noticed they moved slightly.
I hate this creek soo much. I tighten it, but then it eventually loosens a little and comes back. You most likely take somewhat large drops and or jumps….causing you to land hard on your crank to loosen them up.
Is your crank a stock crank? Mine is a FSA stock…I need to replace it.
Wow. Thank you all for your advise and such…lol
I figured it all out. My derailleur was actually bent, just as I had hoped. I finally found where, comparing it to my sx4 that snapped in half a month ago. lol.
So I’ve broken two derailleurs now, sx4 and an x.5. I just ended up buying another sx4, because it was cheaper, and because it seemed to work just great when I had my first one. And I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, just to have this next one break too. but I don’t think that will be happening till at least the summer is over…hopefully. I see nothing wrong with the lower end SRAM’s. sure my first one broke in half, but that was because it got stuck in my rim due to a loose stick 😠 and this second time here because i was just being careless and stupid.
If this lasts me for quite some time, i might look into a higher end, but to me the lower end (sx4,x.5) seem just perfect.
SWEET!
Thanks a lot. I was reading up on the MTB Trails link on here for Indiana, and that one came up on my list of possibilities. I will definitely have to talk to my fam. about this because it looks quite awesome!
My family is looking to go on a family camping trip this summer, and we will be camping where ever there is a good mtbing trail. So i was just wondering what trails in Indiana can’t be passed up.
Has anybody been to the Fort yet this year? how is it looking?
this is interesting. I have jokingly suggested to my girlfriend (but really am quit serious) to get a bike so we can ride together. But she has said that she hasn’t ridden a bike in a couple years. Hearing this story motivates me a little more! Thanks!
huh. i have never heard of those. sound pretty cool!
to answer your question, His House Christian Fellowship. Its not a biking associated ministry, just a campus ministry hear in Michigan that has an annual 50 mile ride to raise money.
yeah! rail trails. I just recently road 50 miles to raise money for a campus ministry. After completing it, I didn’t seem to tired surprisingly and hit a real rad trail on my way home!
I will have to agree with Goo! But I also like to road bike (on my hardtail) to help keep myself in shape, along with mtbing.
I have actually caused more harm to myself road biking than mtbing. I got 6 stitches from it. took a turn too fast on pavement and slid into a steel flower bed encasement… 😠
kinda makes me wonder what i could possibly do mtbing to match or exceed that level of harm…..hmmm.
I like the idea that garbanzo has about the old inner tube as a guard! I will need to try that out cuz I have the same annoying problem.
Also, I have never heard of having a one ring crank (with no front derailleur) Thats a great idea and i might need to try that, because I never use my front derailleur, and it would be a good step towards single speed.
Does anyone have just a rear derailleur, and a one ring crank? How does it ride? Should I consider it?
I have the Crank Bro Smarty’s which is just Eggs with a small platform.
Mine seem to unclip with ease. I have the cleat with dimples on the right shoe, so I have a 15 degree release angle, with of course the 6 degree of float. Maybe you have yours set on the 20 degree release angle, making them tougher to get out of.
But I do like them a lot!
Hey man, welcome!!
Glad you found the site! I have found it quite helpful myself and know you will too.
I happen to have a 2008 Cannondale F7 as well!! and I love it!
Anyways welcome and hope we can all help!
I have this same problem!!!!!
It started happening after i got my bike back from my LBS. My guess is that they might have knocked the rotor and bent it slightly to cause it to rub in one spot, for the majority of the time. I can’t say they squeak only when i’m pedaling, but it tends to sometimes squeak and some times not. I have Shimano disc brakes that came on my Cdale F7.
I’ll have to try Mongoose’s suggestion.
Cool! thats just the advice i needed.
actually it was not my fault. i have never set the bike down on the derailleur. the trail i was riding today had a lot of loose twigs and small branches which might have hit the derailleur and caused it to get pushed over…. 😠
nothing i can do now tho.
thanks for the tips, i’ll be looking into Sram’s x-7 and x-9!
1) People destroying obstacles like small log ramps and such. I like that stuff on the small trail I ride at home.
2) sapling stumps of course. and also logs that are big/tall enough to scrap my crank on. I don’t know if i’m not doing it right or what. but those logs suck.
3) pot smoking morons who tend to smoke in the vicinity of the trails. not a pot smoker. -
