“freeriding” it used to just be in a few videos or whatever where someone is just riding down an untracked mountain or rock slide. Now there are bikes specially designed and marketed for freeriding, and any dentist thinks they can just ride a bike wherever they want if they have one. I saw a dentist on a Yeti dressed in all Yeti kit “freeriding” down a fossil bed at dinosaur ridge in Golden the other day. Like what makes that ok? It used to be that the mantra was stay on the tail or we lose the tail, now it’s just ride wherever you want because you have special bike that told you you could and there are no trails.
There’s a series of good beginner trails at Bear Creek State Park on the west end of the Denver area.
REI also has a good app called MTB project which shows a map of all biking trails with ratings like on a ski run with green for easy, blue for intermediate and black for expert. Just make sure to look at the elevation profile. Even green trails like on Green Mountain can have monster climbs
