<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi, my local bike shops stock unsold models of Giant Trance, Anthem, Cube Stereo 120/140/160 from 2014-16 with 40-60% discount. Is it worth the deal? I understand I’ll miss boost hubs (on all of them) and be getting older model suspension and geometry. In some cases 10 speed drive train…</p>
I’ve been road biking until recently, never ridden FS (we have great mountains here). Thanks for advice.

Not sure about the cube, but the Trance and Anthem I believe are well worth the money at 40% off original list.

You should almost always take the discount for the “older” model year. You will almost always get more bike for your $$. Think of it this way: say you buy the current year model. Chances are that the 2019 version will have some modification or upgrade that will be marketed as the latest and greatest. But in reality, for all intents and purposes, it’ll be the same bike. The extra money you spend will – in all probability- not change your riding experience at all. Buy the new (older) model year and you’ll be glad you did. For the money you save you can probably make a few upgrades that will make the older version better than the current year model, e.g. add a dropper if it doesn’t have one, upgrade the wheels, drivetrain, etc.

Yes it’s worth buying previous gen models for a steep discount. Don’t buy into the marketing hype. I’d avoid 10 speed and look only at 11 speeds if you’re riding in the mountains. ,
