The USFS has been removing some hazard trees in the Winter Park / Frasier area over the last few weeks and temporarily closed several trails while the work was being done. The initial closure area was reduced as work progressed and some trails were re-opened ahead of schedule. But apparently the few trails that remain closed are too tempting for many riders:

The U.S. Forest Service has been struggling with violations of our reduced closure area on Leland Creek Road (FSR 159). Mountain bikers have been disregarding the barricades at the end of Flume Trail (N82) and the user-created route known as “Broken Spade” and then riding away from our uniformed employees. We reduced the closure as a courtesy to the public and ask folks to please comply with the current closures as posted. Help us spread the word by encouraging people to stay off Flume Trail. Work on Leland is expected to continue through the weekend and will hopefully be complete next week. We appreciate your continued patience and compliance.

I’m not surprised people are riding in the closed areas but it does seem pretty rude to ride away from rangers after being approached. So if you’re planning to ride in the area, be sure to check this map first–or at least listen to the rangers when they tell you not to ride a trail. After all, it’s just temporary…
