Riding after work is one of my favorite ways of blowing off the stresses of the day. Having the opportunity to work while on a trip to Crested Butte I also had the sublime opportunity to ride one of the great “from town” rides after work one day.

In Ulaanbaatar my favorite afterwork ride is The Beast.  It has multiple big tough climbs to choose from 1200′-1300′ verts each in 1.5 miles, which make for fun fast descents on the returns.  The nature is beautiful and feels remote very quickly.  Good wildlife population.  It is very accessible to me on my bike from my house and is rideable pretty much everyday from mid-March through mid-November.  December – February is just too cold in Ulaanbaatar, which is the coldest capital city in the world.

I always use after work or lunch and Strand Hill as an example of why eMountain Bikes aren’t totally a bad thing (Crested Butte in general for some sweet self shuttling).  It’s a long road slog up (scenic) and then two track to the top.  Then an amazing trail down and a road slog back.  For people who just love riding singletrack with an ebike you can make it a quick rip (hourish) and still get to ride world class alpine singletrack with the motor off.

Cool video!  I need to get back to CB soon!
