I am upgrading to a full suspension bike (from my old Rockhopper).  The bike I’m looking at is kind of a frankenbike, so it’s hard to look up a true value.  Here’s the specs…..

2016 Giant Anthem X 29er frame   –   The components range from 2011 to 2014 ……Fox shox 32…..Fox Float RP2…Shimano SLX shifters and crank (teeth on largest ring has some visible wear but other two look nearly new)….rear gear teeth all look immaculate…..Deore XT rear derailleur……SLX front derailleur….Deore XT Hydraulic disc brakes….Kendatires Nevegal 29×2.2 tires with moderate wear…..rims have no markings so not sure what they are.

I took it into a bike shop and they said everything looks/functions well..  Maybe could use a new chain at the end of the season.  I’ve ridden it several times and like the fit and handling.  I am getting back into biking after a long hiatus so essentially a novice and will be riding beginner/intermediate single track trails and forest service roads.

Any thoughts on what a fair price would be?

Why would you say the components are older than the frame, that is pretty much what the 2016 Anthem X 29er came with.

It was a 2011 bike and the frame was replaced under warranty in 2016.  Apparently the older anthem frame was notorious for cracking where the top tube meets the seat tube.  That junction is thicker on the newer frame.  So there are some original components and some upgrades (brakes, chain, cassette, handlebars and grips).  Forgot to mention the Maximus handlebars and Ergon grips.

You should pay $187.50, but I doubt he’ll go for it.

$1,000 – 1,200 is about right, depending on wear and tear on those older components.
