      Hi friends,

I’m borrowing a friend’s 4 year old Yeti 29er trail bike. It has a raceface turbine 29″ wheelset (out of production now but there’s specs on https://www.jensonusa.com/Race-Face-Turbine-29-Wheelset). on the actual rims it says  ETRTO 622×21 and ERD 602.

This rim has outer width 25mm and inner width 21mm. On my enduro bike at home I have 27.5″ wheels and maxxis minion DHR ii 2.4″ front and minion SS 2.3″ on the back. but these tires are made for wide rims, so it looks like i can’t just get the same ones.

I’ve been browsing through the rest of the maxxis catalog to find tires that work on the 29″ more narrow rims, but

the tires have vague specs like  ETRTO 58-622, what does that mean ? (the tire is 2.3 wide)

How can i find tires that will definitely fit?

Also, i’m open to suggestions for which kind of tire. I’ll be riding in flagstaff AZ and in CO: cortez, breckenridge, keystone, grand junction/fruita. One thing seems for sure: i probably don’t need to plow through mud, just need grip on the dry terrain of those places. I imagine plenty of rocks and some softer terrain especially in fruita. i’ve been looking at tire descriptions but i don’t mean what “loose over hard” means for example? thanks!

found this really interesting article https://bikerumor.com/2016/08/12/tech-story-match-bicycle-tire-width-rim-width-best-results/ also on archive.org found the specs for the rims, which tells me i can use tire width 1.9 – 2.4”), so I guess if I find a tire for 29″ that has a width in this range, it should fit right?

I think you found a good reference source.  However, given the rim dimensions I think anything over 2.25″ is probably too big.
