Looking to upgrade my all mountian bike front tire from a 2.1 wtb velociraptor to a 2.35 maxxis minion dhf. My lbs said the minion is one of the best tires for all mountain ridding around Lake Tahoe.

I have been trying to figure out the different compound choices maxxis has and what would be best for all mountain, single track/flow trail ridding on Tahoe’s loose and chunky trails.

Since it is for my front tire I am thinking of going with the super tacky 42A compound, but not sure If I should get the dual ply or single ply.

What is the difference between the double and single ply?
