This summer, Taos Ski Valley will open its legendary slopes to mountain biking for the first time, making the world-famous ski town a warm-weather destination for outdoor recreational activities.

The new mountain biking terrain will have its grand opening in the late summer of 2013 and riders will have full access to Taos’ Lift 1 in the main base area. The trails themselves will be among the best in the state and will include a downhill flow trail that will be more than three miles long with a variety of rollers, jumps, berms and other features. In addition, Taos Ski Valley plans to add a skills course, pump track and other amenities in the base area of the mountain. In subsequent phases, Taos will add additional trails and features, giving riders new experiences each summer.

"The trails themselves will be among the best in the state"

That’s a pretty big claim as NM has some pretty freakin’ awesome trails!

Just what I need . . . another reason to want to sneak away to Taos 😄

@mtbgreg, this puts Taos on the map for you to move to: skiing all winter, MTB all summer. 😼

Taos is a great town. The skiing is the best in the southwest outside Colorado. There is inexpensive lodging and many great restaurants. This towns hotels are priced more like a community and NOT as a ski town.
South Boundary Trail also adds the the areas great network.
If I were to live anywhere in NM this is the place.

I would go so far as to say Taos is the best skiing, [i:2v8hz4co]INCLUDING[/i:2v8hz4co] Colorado–and I live in Colorado! I was utterly captivated by the place–everything from the terrain to the scenery to the vibe.

There’s plenty of fantastic singletrack and, even if one was to get bored, it’s a short drive to oodles more in Los Alamos and Santa Fe.

I took a look at the season ski pass price for Taos, and immediately shat myself. 😏

I guess I’ll stay in Colorado.

Will be great to have another northern NM option for MTB trails. I seriously considered living in Taos (again), and went so far as to buy land there. But there is *no* bike culture and trying to get around by bike is scary compared to bike towns like Tucson, Denver, Salida, Durango, Boulder, etc.
