This is the best thing I have ever found to do my entire life and I HAVE A LOT OF HOBBIES!

I LOVE TRAILS, LOVE HELMETS, DON’T OWN ONE YET!!! On Order with my Gloves.

      LOVE IT!

My name is Calvin, I’m a Personal Trainer and a Scuba Instructor. I spend a lot of time playing outside, I am an avid Runner (especially cross country), Scuba Diver (obviously), Down Hill Skateboard a lot (not as much over this last year, barely hit any hills, getting older, more fragile), I love paintball, I spend a lot of time lifting weights, doing plyometrics and everything at work. I like to Surf too, but I’m definately not the best, I just like doing it, a lot. I love Paddling out into the waves on the great lakes when the low pressure fronts slam into the lakes in the fall, and I love catching powerful ocean waves down on the east coast of Florida (moving back there in two months). Love surfing though, like I said, I pretty much suck, but I love the spiritual connection I get with the world, the Lake, God, and each individual wave that comes along.

Anyway, Just started Mt. Biking, breahed off a regulator for 30 minutes while wearing a wetsuit under a frozen lake before but never been so fricken scared off my a** as I was when I bombed my first trail three days ago.

I am all about the VO2max baby!, but holy Shi8, that is incredible, bombing hills butt hung back arms stiff as when I bench press. I LOVE MOUNTAIN BIKING.

I ran right out after my first time out and bought a Specialized HardRock (beginner bike) Already wondering what it will be like when I move up to the SWEET LOOKING SHOCKS on the SS, or hopefully at least that Epic.

WOW, 3 days in and I feel like 100% stronger.

      I LOVE IT!

nice to see ya here on singletracks.com.it only gets better every ride.if ya got any mountain bike training tips(in and out of the gym) we would really appreciate them since your a personal trainer.i have a 24 hour fitness membership and like to lift weights too.although the last few years have been taking a break from the weights.i worked my way up to 280 plbs. and was really rolling in the weight room when i got a virus and spent 3 days in the hospital, all while busting my butt delivering fitness equipment and a back getting heavy use.i want to really concentrate on abs and vo2 like you were saying in your post.my problem with that is the doctor said i have low oxygen level.i got to get in for my physical and talk to the doc a little more about that.anyway, nice to see such an enthusiastic dude ridin mountain bikes.welcome to mountin bikeing and hope to see more of ya here on the singletracks.

      Welcome to Singletracks!

Glad to see you’ve gone full-bore into our sport. A lot of people get discouraged when just starting out because they begin on 50lb Walmart deathcycles. You’ve gone with a Specialized, but I’ll leave that one alone for the time being…. 😏 😉 Just ditch the Crackrock, and get a Gary Fisher or SantaCruz! 😼

I’ve got family up in your neck-o-th’-woods (McBain), and we used to spend summers at our cabin near Lake City. I used to live in Interlochen as well. I wasn’t into MTB’ing then, but from what I remember of the area, the trails would’ve been sweet to ride.

Come the south east Tennessee and ride chilhowee. The climb up Clemmer will kick your butt but the 5 mile down hill is awesome.

Hey Bro, I grew up in Lake City, graduated from High School there. McBain was our big rivals in Football (not that we ever even came close to winning a game against them). McBain is Beautiful, Lots of rolling hills just outside of McBain, all Farm Country, LOTS OF TRAILS.

Dang, I had to catch my breath after reading that introduction. I believe I can skip my ride today. Wlecome to singletracks and the mountain biking world CJ. I’ve been biking for a little over a year and a half and love it. Once you get used to your bike you should try night riding. It will give you a whole different aspect to riding. Stay with it and stay active on SingleTracks. There is a great bunch of guys here.

Welcome to our world Calvin! You will never be the same again… 😆
Man, you are a stones throw from Hanson Hills in Grayling and Boyne Mountain. Both areas have some excellent trails that will put a grin on your mug. Great places to push yourself and your VO max. Remember, it’s not about the bike. Ride it ’till it breaks!
      Enjoy.

Welcome Calvin. I am new to mountain bike riding also and it is addicting. So I can see how you feel. This is a good place to learn about all things mountain bike related.
