For anyone who has heard of the "Catawba" trails at the US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte NC, but hasn’t made the trip…here’s your opportunity!
I’m thinking about setting up a regular ride at the Catawba/USNWC trail starting in March 2009.

If you are within a 1-2hr drive of Charlotte, this trail is definitely worth the drive! The trail conditions have been great out there, it is well-ridden year-round, and is virtually impervious to the infamous "spring thaw". Awesome place to kick-start your 2009 season with a spring ride primer!

There are some challenging sections throughout, but if you’ve ridden trails for at least 6 months, you should be able to handle the trails with no problem. I will be happy to adjust the course of the ride based on the experience of the group and/or help any beginners with bypassing any tough sections. This will be a social pace, average 7-9mph – and we can do stops every 15-20min or if you want to take some pics on certain sections. The distance will be about 9-10mi and will equate to about a 1.5hr ride time. I’m thinking of anytime on Saturdays or in the afternoon on Sundays.

The USNWC ("Whitewater Center") also offers amenities right there for pre- and post-ride. Locker rooms, Restrooms, and we’ll wrap up the ride on the deck at the "River’s Edge" restaurant onsite. It has a full menu, import/domestic beer, wine…with a view of kayakers and rafters traversing the whitewater ‘Competition’ channel and the new 1100′ Mega Zip Line.
There is a $5 parking fee to get into the facility, trail use is included in that fee. The USNWC rents bikes/equipment there if you need it.

We can also combine the USNWC with any other trails in the area you might be interested in riding – say the word and I’ll lead the convoy to the next trailhead…but I can’t guarantee that I won’t pass out on the second trail/lap!!
      😀

If you’re interested, go ahead and post up here and then based on response, I will coordinate a time and confirm with setting a "Group Ride" posting on the trail profile page. Here’s the link:

I’ll post up a duplicate of this invite on the general ST board, as well. Looking forward to it!

If you get this in time I’ll be there tomorrow morning between 8 & 9 for a casual morning of riding. Most likely 2-3hrs. New to the area, would love a riding partner.
