I am confused on why so many people upgrade their seatpost. I understand the weight and cosmetic but………
Why would you need a stronger seatpost?? Why would you need one longer? I understand shorter bc of DH or Stunt Jumping. A friend of mine had to saw off 3" of his seat post to get it to a lower height he desired, which I still found odd bc my seatpost will shorten all the way to the bottom of the saddle. I guess not all frames are like that. My seatpost also raises a considerable amount. I am 6’0 and I dont know what I would use a longer seat post for.
This is more of inquiry than a need I suppose. Im just confused. 😕

I felt the same way as you did. But i had a single bolt seatpost and it kept slipping so upon a friends reccomendation i snagged a thomson elite of ebay for 50 bucks or so.
I dont understand why, but that seatpost is awesome. I dont know what it does, i dont know why it does it but it makes for a super plush ride (could be placebo effect). Either way i upgraded my mtb frame and had a stock seatpost on it and immediately missed my thomson. Went out and got one and its just as good.
i believe the technical term is magic.

😆
Its funny you mention your seat slipping bc I had to tighten mine up twice on Sunday. I also rode my bike harder on Sunday than I ever have. Either way, I may be buying a new seat post soon. 😉

if you can get yourself a Thomson i definitely recommend it. I ended up getting both of mine used off eBay for around 50 each. Im not sure why it does what it does, but its very nice and has changed my mind about seatposts forever.

It just seams like it would be one of the LAST things you upgrade. Hell, if you have the cash…

I will be upgrading mine soon. For me, I have decided to try and dial in the fit a little more, and want to try a seat post with a different offset.

you cant forget the uber cool adjustable seatposts like the Gravity Dropper, Joplin, Black Mamba, RISE, Specialized Command, and the Kind Shock adjustble seatposts, those offer the ability to rise and lower your seat when you need to, IMO they are the perfect AM seatpost for the rider whos always stoping to adjust their seatpost, the only real downsides is that they are heavy and kinda pricey.

Depand on what you want and the trail you ride. It’s really convenient as riding in mountain trail with Adjustable seatpost than one tube.
Now what I know is more and more company enter to adjustable post product, like: Giant, Fox, DSP… It is also good for market and us to choose what we want.
