I’ve seen frankenbikes, and updated commuters, but wondered who has made their old bike even better when switching applications?  Pics and ideas are what I am looking for as a backup to my mutant…this 1999 kona was great as a pure mtb for 11 years, now it’s even better as a complete “scrambler” that can literally go anywhere….especially up the river and through the woods for a growler.  cst critter rear and slant 6 up front take me just about anywhere.

The 650b in front and origin8 drops really made this bike comfy…it was already nice but lost out to my lynskey for pure mtb eventually.

Nicely done. I have an  old Trek 800 I’m looking at doing something similar to.  trying to figure out how to get some 700c wheels to fit the 26″ frame/ brakes, going for a anywhere/gravel bike, 40mm tires, woodchipper drop bars and so on.

the 700 fits easily into 26″ kona p2 fork…no matter the width

rear is only 26″….but I actually like the geo much better for what it is used for now….really surprised at how much I like the drops and might have to make it a pure drop bike….funny, I never liked’em on road bikes…maybe it’s the wider stance?

      good luck
