Question on Rear Shock..

      Hi Guys..This is Kevin again here..

      Want’ed to start with saying "thank you" for all the advice that you guys gave on my last post..

      I got one more question…about the rear shock..

      My bike is almost done but i still need to change the rear shock since it’s a stock from mongoose..

      I decided to go with Rockshox Tora for the front shock.

      Here are my options…

      1. Rock Shox – Ario 2.2
      2. Fox Shock – Floater RL

      Which one you guys think that i should choose?

      I have to pay about $35 more for Rockshox..is it worth the money?

      If Yes what is the difference between these two?

      Both of them are used ones…

      I have a Fox Float RP2. Been a very good air shock. I like Rock Shox forks, but I have zero experience with their shocks.

      If the Fox is cheaper and in good shape, I’d go for it.

      If they are both used, I’d buy whichever one is in better shape, even if that means spending $35 more (which isn’t that much when talking about suspension).

      Thank you guys for the advice..
      The weakness of Fox shock they say is that when it fails i really can’t fix it by my self but Rock shox is kind of easy to do so…so on that side, which means in long term, it feels like will be cheaper for me to go with Rockshox even if i’m paying more for it since Fox shock is charging about 100 to fix it.
      (don’t know if this is true or not but…)…
      I understand that i’m stuck in the middle between the shocks that are pretty much the same level..
      I’m not that focused on just saving money buy saying "cheaper"..but wanted to be more careful before i make my choice…
      I’m willing to spend around 200 for rear shock…
      Shall i look for different ones?

      Fox Shocks can be user serviced, the typical ‘stuck-down’ issue can be repaired by the user and the air sleeve seals can be replaced by the user. The user can’t alter the compression/rebound shims without factory tools, but that’s more of a tuning thing, although the damper should be checked/rebuilt every so often (I’ve ridden mine for 3 years and it’s about ready for a rebuild).

      Personally, I wouldn’t spend $200 on a rear shock for that frame. If you can get a used shock in the correct length and stroke for under $100 I’d say it’s worth it, otherwise I’d save the money. (Do you know the stock shock length and stroke for the Schwinn? This is very important to know.)

      just an FYI, both of those shocks need to have the damper rebuilt by an authorized dealer or done by the manafactuer and both jobs cost around the $100+ area, so whoever told you that the Fox is more of a pain to fix is most likely a Rock Shox fanboy, as service on both shocks is pretty much the same

      I don’t have any experience with either selection. My rear shock is a Fox Van R Coil that serves me very well. It cost me 250 dollars, but it was worth it. You can change out the spring as per your riding practise. With my rear shock I can also adjust the rebound speed which is very nice. Buy your suspension based on your own needs. 😆
