Opinion: 4 Reasons You Should Vote For The RRRC

In response to a recent plug by the Singletrack editors promoting another location for the Bell Built grant, I couldn’t help putting in a plug of my own. Here are four reasons I think you should vote for Richmond, VA.

1. Richmond is not a big city. Momentum is building though in making Richmond a premier outdoor recreation location and destination. For example, in 2012, it was voted The Best River Town in America by Outside Magazine. And next year, the UCI Road World Championships will be held in Richmond.

2. Meanwhile, we’ve been working hard toward receiving the IMBA Ride Center designation. The Richmond Regional Ride Center (RRRC) would be only the 12th location in the USA to receive this prestigious designation. This grant would be a huge help to that end.

3. The RRRC will be unique in that it will include facilities that will cater to individuals with disabilities. The Paralyzed Veterans of America, Mid-Atlantic Chapter is seeking to bring awareness to adaptive sports, especially handcycling, and the RRRC will help to accomplish this goal. The RRRC will provide the disabled community a safe place to handcycle, an increased support system, and a way to build confidence and live an active, healthy lifestyle.

4. The RRRC will be the only Ride Center located in an urban environment allowing the Richmond area to leverage existing natural assets to better the community by:
•Providing universal accessibility to metropolitan residents
•Enabling access to a greater population and under-served communities
•Allowing communities to lead a more active and environmentally-friendly lifestyle

By the way, the Richmond Regional Ride Center won the East Coast grant! Not only that, but our project received the most votes of any project in any region. Way to come on strong RVA!
