Did my first real night ride of the year yesterday. Glad to see both headlights were intact, although I lost a screw out of my taillight. Anybody else turned their lights on yet?

Been on about 4 or 5 all together this summer. Not real big one’s but we did get out and ride around with the bat’s and bug’s at Mathews/Winters.One night we were trying to get an awsome night pic for the photo contest but had no luck with that.Still only have one light for my helmet and hope to change that by next summer or earlier.

Steve you must have been doing some late night riding to need your lights in the summer. 😆 I am pretty much sold on a 2 light system, even with the extra weight. I use a Nightrider Rat 2.0 on my handlebar, and Nightrider Storm HID light on my helmet. Freaked out more than a few deer crashing through the woods at night lit up like a freight train hehe.

      Any more nightriders out there?

I ride about once a week at night with a HID Night Rider light. The light extends my riding season to year round. Gets somewhat cold here in NY. Still ride at night through the winter. I usually only ride trails i’m totally familiar with. I also always bring a back up light i.e. hiking headlamp, just to get out of the woods in case my big light dies.

i am prepared to spend about $500 on a light. i feel like it’s something that i will have for a long time and that i will need in order to survive night rides. it kills me to spend that much, but i fall every 5th time i ride during the day, so i can’t afford to cut corners on this purchase. should i get a handlebar and helmet light for that amount of $, or should i just get one super bright light? i have seen some with 700 or 800 lumens for that kind of $.

Redundancy is a great thing to have. Plus Lumens are accumulative so its one and the same.

I like 2. Occasionaly you will catch something and the cord will get jerked loose. Nothing like riding in pitch black – yeow.

You could do some kind of combination like this. For your helmet the Nightrider Enduro.
Its on closeout – they change models almost every year so you will still have a topnotch light, just not the latest model. I like the lighter Lithium Ion Battery. My light (Storm) is similar to this and cranks out all the lumens I need, but the NiMH battery weighs a ton (well, a pound and a half).

Then you could get something like this for your handlebars. A less bright light as a backup.

      MiNewt MiniUSB

Personal preference, but I like having the brighter light to go where my eyes are looking.

Shop around. Theres tons of stuff out there.
