IDK about this one… this would be pretty nutty, but I think I might try to tackle it!

2 hours a day? That doesn’t sound so bad.

I just was looking at a calendar and this date range covers 3 weekends… that should make it significantly easier.

Yeah, you can get in longer days on the weekend and cut down the weekday riding.

You going for it?!

I work 3pm to 11pm most days so I get a lot of riding in during the week. The only thing that will hold me back is the weather and trail conditions. I hate riding on pavement and gravel, it is just not fun at all. So if the trail conditions clear up, I may give this challange a run. Though I doubt they will with all the rain/snow in the forcast and all of the standing water everywhere I look here in St. Louis right now!

I don’t think I can pull it off. I have about a 1-1/2 hour commute each day! Really limits the time after work! God I hate California traffic! Ride at lunch, but that is only 30-45 minutes during the week.

I also have 2 very good trail networks with in 20 minutes from both work and home! Greensfelder has close to 25 miles of single track and Castlewood has right at 20 miles! 😃 I am a bit spoiled, well at least when the weather cooperates that is! Right now every trial with in driving distance is a mud bog and will stay that way for a week or more i bet. 😢

Nice. I’ve got a great bike trail real close, but no single track. I used it to commute every day. Wish I could still do that!

I can commute also if I don’t ride before work. It is a 6.5 mile ride from my garage to the front door of work.

Too long to bike your commute? I’ve been trying to bike my commute about twice a week (only have to go in 4 days, so that’s 50%). It’s a little over 11 miles one-way, so it really helps the time add up quick!

Yeah, 33 miles each way, and unfortunately it is bad city driving for a bunch. Bad thing is, I work at UC Davis, which is huge into biking! [url:i90b51jj]http://www.outsideonline.com/adventure-travel/north-america/The-Best-Bike-Cities-in-North-America-Davis-California.html[/url:i90b51jj]

I don’t think the weather is going to hold up to well this week for this 15 hour challenge and my God who knows what is in store for the Giro challenge weather wise. I am looking at weather.com and Thr thru Sun have snow in the forecast this is just nuts. I’ll hit the gravel roads in the cold but this is getting ridiculous. One thing to look forward to is Daylight savings time. That extra hour of daylight will make a huge difference. I just lost my Thursday ride having to take care of some customers. Friday is out. The wife and kids are going out all day on Saturday so if there is no precipitation I am riding where I can.

The rain has been crazy here lately. If not for road biking, I don’t think I would have been able to do more than a handful of rides in the past two months. About the time the trails begin to dry out, it pours down for a couple of days.
Winter is getting very old… ready for spring!

Daylight savings time does nothing for me, I am at work during thoes hours anyways! I guess it helps on the weekends a bit though!

For you guys that have a road bike…I cringe thinking of riding on the road I can’t stand it probably because my hearing is like really bad and people are more concerned with talking and texting than paying attention to the road…can I get some advice on a road bike that will would be good for just 30 mile rides to stay loose when the trails are not an option. I really don’t want to go above $1,000. I need a road option in the event this weather is going to continue thru the spring. We got more snow/ice yesterday and my fire roads are no good! Thanks. I have not been on a road bike in over 20 years.

I just started road biking in November and it really isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. While I much prefer mountain biking, it’s great for logging the training miles and riding when the trails are wet! To stay safe I generally just avoid the high traffic roads and the roads with high speed limits. Here in the southeast, we are blessed with TONS of paved back roads to ride! Also, around here, even the major highways climbing up and over the mountain gaps are so tight and twisty that the speed limits are only 35-45 mph. Of course drivers still speed, but they can’t achieve speeds like they can on straighter, flatter highways.
I spent about $300 on a 10 year old road bike with light use and have logged over 800 miles on it. You definitely don’t need to spend a ton of money to get a rideable road bike… but you can spend 10-15,000 if you want 😉
