MTB trail coming to Longview, TX

      Longview residents could soon have a mountain biking trail to call their own—at no cost to the city.

      After members of the Longview Bicycle Club asked the Parks and Recreation Department to build a trail, the department determined the Grace Creek drainage corridor would be suitable for a path.

      “Mountain biking is a really fast-growing sport, and there is no public trail to ride on in Longview,” said Jeff Pierson, president of the Longview Bicycle Club and a spearhead for the new trail. “The trail (the club) does have is on that gentleman’s private land, but we know we won’t be able to use that forever. Both Tyler and Dallas have trails, but there was no opportunity here.”

      The trail, if approved, would be marked and cleared by members of the Longview Bicycle Club in phases and would eventually use the 2.5 to three mile length of the corridor that stretches from the Maude Cobb Convention and Activities Complex to the City of Longview Wastewater Treatment Plant on FM 1845.

      A trail on the property due to constructed twists and turns could be much longer than three miles.
