I often get frustrated with the mountain bike trails in Iowa being closed a lot. Is this just me, or does the entire Midwest have this issue?

Here in Southeastern Wisconsin a lot of Milwaukee’s trails can be closed due to the slightest amount of rain. This is probably because most of them are in low lying areas surrounding rivers. However, the region’s saving grace is Lake Geneva Canopy Tours, which has trails open rain or shine.

The Central lower peninsula of Michigan has pretty sandy soils, so they have a number of trails that open up reasonably quick (I travel there for work). Where I live in Central Ohio is a lot of clay, so we end up with a mess after rains too.

I am one of the Trail volunteers.  We’ve increased the number of rideable days by building the trail to shed water. But it takes a lot of effort and we still deal with closures.  Just keep digging
