I just bought the Trek 4300 08′, and personally i think the rear derailleur is total crap! Therefor i’m looking to get a replacement. Anyone have any suggestions? price really isn’t an issue, but i’m not looking to pay $500 for one, haha, you get my point.

Get a SRAM X-9 derailleur & shift-pod combo. They X-9 is almost exactly the same in performance as the X-O, just without the pricetag and fancy bits. Even the X-7 beats the Shimano LX & XT in terms of shifting performance. SRAM’s derailleurs shift gears with authority, whereas the Shimano offerings are smoother, yet vague.
The new Shimano XT Shadow derailleur edges out the X-7 due to its’ increased clearance, and the fact that they’re available in High-normal & Low-normal shifting configurations. That is the other consideration, which do you prefer.Neither the X-7 or Shimano XT setups will break the bank, nor will the X-9.
