I’ve had several people tell me that beer is a better recovery drink than just straight water, and while I wanted it to be true, I wasn’t totally sure. But thanks to Light & Motion, I stumbled across this news article from 2007 about the actual University study that proves it!

      Drink up guys!

I haven’t drank alcohol since the week of Christmas to assist with the weight loss. Time to jump back on the IPA train! 😆

I think I need to test that hypothesis!

My many years working in the medical field in the military and in civilian life, drinking alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, champagne, & liqueur) does dehydrate you. Not saying it is bad for you, but for recovery?!?!? 😏 😆

Come on, this test was done by a bunch of young college students that I am very positive that they drink their fair share of alcoholic beverages. To me, this is kind of a one sided story. Liquids or solids rich with vitamins & minerals is the best recovery all-in-all. 😉

The body needs water, healthy food, vitamins and minerals to survive, and alcoholic beverages do not provide this, but drain the body of these most needed substances. 😉

I think the part of the article that was excluded was "…while consumed multiple times, while seated in a folding chair, around a camp fire, hot dog in hand, with friends, after an exhausting day biking.." is a fantastic recovery method.

Granted each of the participants where given one pint of beer and the rehydrations results where listed as only slightly better.

Well, they won me over!! Lets get the recovery on!

I think from now on I am going to work a recovery into each lap at my local trails!

I know this is an old post seems like a good 1 to keep going my 2 best friends Budweiser and Jack Links no better recovery

I have heard this too from runners. Is it that beer has low levels of potassium or does it have something to do with it lowering your blood pressure after working out hard?

On a similar note, I love the old stories from the Tour de France from the early 1900s. The riders would drink dark beer. One, the water wasn’t necessarily safe to drink, and two, they believed that the stout beer provided nourishment! My wife got me some great posters of the riders in front of some bar pounding down beers before continuing the race! Image

Both test groups only had 16 ones of liquid, control only had water, the other a beer. It was not like the test subjects were drinking a lot. The carbs and other small amounts of nourishment I am pretty sure would of fought the negatives of the alcohol.

If you did the same with ware vs. chocolate milk, or better yet milk shake, I am pretty sure the reals would be similar with the mil doing better. During excersise more then water needs to be replaced.

Needless to say, I do not mind cracking open an IPA, preferable a Terripan Rye, after a good ride.
