Are your local trails open? Where are you? What is the riding situation besides the obvious avoiding group rides.
Mixed bag for me. Some of the parks have closed parking lots but you can ride if you can get there. Others are open.

I’m in San Diego’s North County and all but one of our “local” trails are closed. There’s another trail system area 35 miles north that’s open because it’s all been built on private property over the years. The trails are far better than our “local” city trails so I go up there at least once a week. They are always more busy on weekends but shockingly, it’s easy to practice “social distancing” everywhere but at the top of climbs. We also have trails in the National Forest to the East and North that are open but it’s 80 miles each way to get to them.

They don’t have jurisdiction over deer trails, Tex! The best part is that so few people frequent the deer trails that Bambi will be the one to give ya COVID, VD or any other viral infection.

@iliketexmex, where do you live? If I remember right, you are in Ohio. If so, what part?

The trails around Colorado Springs are open. They are also open throughout the state, but traveling between counties is being discouraged.

I was living in Central Ohio until recently, I just moved up to the Toledo area which is on the border with Michigan. Michigan was later in implementing restrictions but has put more of them in place. My favorite local trails are in Michigan, but I have to drive and the parking lots are closed. The trails in the Toledo area are open. They are flat but at least they are accessible.

The answer in Central Kentucky is sort of. Parks aren’t closed officially but they have closed some parking lots. I am a bit confused by it. Rode last night and parked in grass with several other drivers. Multiple police cars patrolling but nobody said anything. I am guessing it is to make sure there are not big groups. Similar experience last week at a different park minus the police presence.

Here in GJ Colorado all trails are still open, but one part of LL (bike park), people are just too close to each other. This could maybe close LL down, you never know, that would suck big time.

Stuff near me in SW Atlanta metro is closed. Crowds of ppl on foot at Cochran Mill a couple of weeks ago were ridiculous, I knew they were gonna close the parking lot eventually. The network of gravel roads in south Fulton County can’t be closed however, and it’s just a 6 mile ride from my driveway to pick it up. That’s gonna be a lifesaver.

I am in northern NJ and so far my go to trails are open. I did see today that some hiking trails near me (Pyramid Mountain) are closed so I am assuming more will follow.

I ride in MD, DE & NJ and, for the most part, trails are open. Parking lots in some MD parks are closed but (most) trails are open. In DE, parks are open but the governor just put out an order that out-of-staters must quarantine for 14 days before using the parks (good luck implementing that). In NJ, as mentioned above, trails are open and I have yet to see parking lots closed (except that local rec parks are closed completely which I assume is intended to prevent people from using the fields for team sports). All that said, with everything pretty much shut down in society the trails are jam packed with people so for those that like to shred you should levelset expectations as we all need to be mindful of other trail users. Now’s not the time to put yourself or others at undue risk for a trip to the ER. Be safe & keep peddlin’!

It is a good point rmap, riding more risk averse makes sense with the COVID going around. To be fair, I am not a huge risk taker when I ride. To each their own, but for me mountain biking has been my means for improving fitness and getting out in nature (mental and physical health with one activity, win win). A broken anything would be a detriment to that. I am old enough that I don’t heal as quickly (and wise enough to accept that fact) so it just does not make sense to go crazy. I respect the skills of the guys who can do crazy stuff, but I am not interested in doing it myself.
I was curious how it was going for other riders. I can’t imagine having a no cycling rule like they did in parts of Europe. That would be depressing. Ohio and Michigan have both been imposing a lot of restrictions from the onset. The latest is Michigan just revised their order to local use only for parks and Ohio is asking people who travel in (or back) from out of state to quarantine 14 days. Looks like I am staying local.

Trails in Northern Virginia are open. However, the local advocacy group, Maryland Off Road Enthusiasts (MORE), has advised riders to cease riding for the time being. I have volunteered on trail work days with MORE, and support their recommendation to stay off the trails primarily because the trails can’t be maintained during this period. An exception to open trail networks is Fountainhead Regional Park, which closed their MTB-only network.

The trails (at least the city and county ones) are open here in Tallahassee. At least for now.
